So, we are going to get a couple chicks soon, and our local feed & seed store has Barnevelders, and Barred Rocks soon, which kind should I get?

yess ive wanted those for a while now.. there feathers are puffy and high maintenance tho... its like having and egg laying cloud. also if you have any other breeds of chickens at home they are usually so kind that they are always at the bottom of the pecking order. (the orpingtons)

It's best to get your chicks all at once, even if you have to get all the same breed. Integration of difference ages can be a pain.

I love my BRs right regular with large brown eggs but get one of every kind. I always have at least one BR.

We currently have a white leghorn named Angel (she's pretty chill, she just roosts all day-), and a RIR (Nutmeg, named after one of our first batches of chickens Cinnamon, another RIR who was super sweet but turned out to be a rooster)

Chicks two or more weeks apart in age can be challenging to blend, so do consider that. what else will they have at the same time? It's nice to have a mixed breed flock, but it's also good to raise the chicks as one group.
