I did the waistband for the skirt, out of the black material so I could iron the ribbon onto something solid. Sorry for the dark photos... first photo is the waistband pinned in place, 2nd photo after stitching it down with a nice tight zig zag across the bottom. I plan to use the same stitch across the top of it to bind it to the bodice.

No photos of the grommets/eyelets yet.. which worked out to be a little crooked due to lack of pinning experience, but I think it'll be ok. DD & DH barely noticed.. of course it's GLARINGLY crooked to me

Today I have to pin the back of the skirt and get my line there to the floor, then pin the skirt to the top and then attach them. Then following the zipper links Fudgie provided, I'll be putting a zipper on the skirt ending in the top. Of course the only zipper foot I have is for my old Kenmore machine.. I don't know if it will fit the new Singer so that could be a hurdle to overcome.

I have searched the internet high & low... I don't think I'm using the correct keywords.. it woudl help to know what this ribbon?trim? is called!

Anyway... it has a backing on it that tells me its to be ironed on...
but I don't want to ruin it, I've got NO EXTRA and it's a long 2 hours one-way to Joanne fabrics to get more.

Any ideas on how to apply this? Iron Temperature? Should I protect the little gems & stones from the iron or go directly on them? What do I cover it with? Am I crazy and this should be sewn on instead?

What about padding your ironingboard with a soft towel and ironing the trim on from the back side of the waistband....towel, trim facedown, waistband facedown.
You would need to pin the trim to the waistband to insure that it goes on straight.

I use a towel anyway that I put on the washing machine.. no ironing board here.
There are 5 layers of fabric on the waistband.. so the ribbon would be the 6th layer.. I wonder if the heat will go through?

I think I can sacrifice about 1.5" of the ribbon to try it with... not much but maybe enough to get the answer on if your suggestion will work.

Sheesh.. who would've though the darn TRIM would be the hardest part!!??!!

sadly, I dont' know.

I got it next to all the ribbons on spools.. Offray maybe? or something like that.. decorative ribbon for sure...

It's around 1/2" wide, looks like sheer silver ribbon with small rhinestones & black stones on it, and on the back it's plasticky, like it has scotch tape on the back. Not sticky or anything.

I can't help but try this sorta stuff... it's actually going really easily.. I'm sure it would be even EASIER if I had some decent garment sewing experience and knew all the jargon/lingo. So far I think it's totally do-able for a novice.

and thank you for the pride... it goes a long way to hear stuff like that. Sure DD loves the dress & all, but still has no idea how hard it can be.. apparently I make it look easy in her eyes

I would whip stitch the top edge of tape to the waistband. You may have to use several different needles if the "sticky" substance on the back of the tape sticks to your needle.

There are some adhesive ribbons that I think are used for scrapbooking. I doubt that they would hold up well to ironing. Can you call the store and ask one of the clerks to see if they have any left and give you more information?
