So, what do we all do with our first eggs?

My Comets actually started laying big eggs right off the bat. They started a bit smaller and are now larger than a "jumbo" from the store. Guess I was spoiled.

The Sussex pullets are still laying teeny eggs, but they're slowly getting bigger. Until then, their little offerings get mixed into my dogs' food.

I have thought about saving some up to make adorable deviled eggs, though.

I wanted to keep my first egg, blow it out and keep it because Im sentimental that way. Its still sitting in the fridge, LOL But then my second and third egg I fed to my parrots after scrambling, and then since then we have eaten all of them, and they are still on the small side.

I'm up to 3 eggs now. Michelle layed another one yesterday afternoon. It was a more normal size. Now she just has to work on her coloring. The eggs should be chocolate colored. I think my second egg came from one of the other girls. I'm so happy to see all of my patience and hard work finally paying off. When I am ready to cook my first Maran's eggs, I'm going to do a side by side comparison with a store bought egg. I hear that Marans eggs are supposed to be very good. I'll post a pic. I can't wait to taste them!

There is no egg too small to eat. The little ones are great scrambled, hard boiled, put into French toast, etc.

I agree! We got TWO more eggs today but I can't find one of them because our Buf Orp is a covert layer. So we have seven in the fridge and one under a bush!

I took pictures but with three teenager boys hanging around messing with my stuff I can't find the cord to down load them.

Here is my third egg. I couldn't wait to try it. I cooked it next to a store bought egg. I don't think I need to mention which one is which.

I am eating it right now.....YUM! You can taste the difference! Is the yolk darker because I let them free range?

Well congratulations ! Yes, free ranging will give you dark orange yolks. Its mainly from the grass their eating. Was that a double yolk egg ? It won't be long & my new flock should be laying can't wait & good luck with your flock you done good.

Yes!!! awesome colored yolks!! Your making me hungry! I think the free ranging(grass, bugs, and treats) makes these dark yellow orange yolks. Since I started buying farm fresh eggs a few years ago I can't even eat store eggs anymore. Sometimes I bake with them only because I was paying $3 a doz at the farmers market, but now we have our own!! I'm hoping for our first carton worthy dozen today!

Yes. A double yolk....my favorite part. I never finished the store egg. Just a couple of bites for comparison. Fresh is definately better!
