So, what do we all do with our first eggs?

Ok, I got my first egg today.

It's small. What does everyone do with these small beginner eggs?
My sister in law gives them to her dogs as a treat because they are too small to eat.
This one might be about half size? I'd like to hear what you all do. Me? I might blow out the contents and paint it gold and mount it on a plaque for all the effort it took me to get to this point!

I used mine in custard.

Wow I love the Dark brown ones and the contrast of the BR egg too! Now ya need an EE for a really wild egg basket.
I tried for two Olive eggers, but they both turned out to be boys. I was bummed! The light egg has to be from the Buff Orpington. I don't think the Speckled Sussex is ready to lay yet, though I don't know much about that kind of bird. Her comb and waddles are very small for a 20 week old bird.

I'm really liking the dark color of the Maran's eggs. The speckled eggs must be Marans too, and I am guessing they will darken up after a while.

I got one more small light egg today. Michelle is in the nesting box right now and Maggie is singing away, but nothing yet. If I keep an eye on them, I might find out who is laying what.

So anyway, I am a little closer to that tiny egg omlet!

Now, to go back out and watch chicken television from my bench next to the coop. Glass of wine in hand of course.

CCC,

Quit waiting and scramble those babies up! They're wonderful.

I'm a few weeks ahead of you (at least my red sex-links are) and I'm starting to get some really nice sized eggs. Made custard this morning, and the biggest one was a double yolker.

That sounds great!
I decided to crack them open to use for dinner tonight. I'm going to make some fried zucchini picked from the garden. I needed eggs to dip them in. So here is what they looked like. Did I mention? It's like opening a Christmas present!

They look gorgeous! The yolks are a good size for such small eggs. Pardon me if I act like this is some kind of miracle. It has been so long waiting for this! It's my first time with raising chicks to laying age. I am awestruck with every egg laid!

Looks yummy! I barely remember meals BEFORE kids...

Just checking back, looks like there's a egg laying frenzy going on here at BYC! Since last Monday we've gotten 15 eggs from the three hens that are laying and our other Buff Orp is hold up under a fuchsia bush and singing her head off now...
