Why do the english whites seem to be so nasty or are the ones that get beat up all the time.

I have had 3 english whites and 1 M gold together for months no problems go out the other day and 2 whites are bloody messes and Ones face is all covered in blood

watched them for a few minutes and the one nasty white would not let up. The gold just fine not a scratch and not involved at all.

In another cage again birds been together for a long time one 2 whites and 2 tux one of the whites bleeding nose and looks like might be blind in one eye.

Two of the birds I have culled both english whites one was just mean mean mean the other was one he picked on so much and even by its self was not healing well so I thought was suffering to much so put her in freezer camp.

To tell you the truth I am not all that crazy about white birds was just trying to get some tux and pied looking birds but just seems like the problems are always with the whites.

Any thoughts,

John

Were the two English Whites male or female. I do notice fighting with younger birds but I really am not having any aggression problems, other than 3 male Jumbo Browns that decided to go at it and I just let them, now they are fine. If you do have two males in there, why don't you separate them, put one with tuxedo, I know how frustrating it can be. Some birds just have odd behavior problems. You can try sticking some lettuce in the cage or something for them to peck at other than themselves.

How is the cage size, too small, maybe they are overcrowded? lighting? too hot? Heat causes them to fight as they get stressed and have to vent it out on someone...

My EW's did that. I'm not sure what it is. They just leave the other colors alone and beat eachother up. I had to separate them and now have only one Ew per pen.

Cages are 18" X 26" and 14" high there are 4 birds to a cage and they are outside so not to hot.

As for sex of the birds not sure out of 4 birds I get 2 eggs a day for the last month or so. Maybe thats my answer but never have seen any of them crowing in that cage or mating behavior.

Hmm.

Man are bloody english whites ugly and when the blood dries yuck.

my English whites are foul tempered too. they only attack other whites...the only way i seem to be able to keep them peaceful is with 1m/1f to a cage( or 1 bird )....My E.W.s are small birds, weighing in at only 6.5-7.5 oz. each. Don't know if that makes a difference or not..smaller E.W.s as opposed to larger ones? just a thought.

I house 30- 40 coturnix quail to a 5x7 ft pen giving them 1 sq ft per quail also have lots of hide outs placed in the cages. I use 120z cans with top & bottom cut out screwed down to a board.
A half ale of straw some limbs and sand boxes inside.Only have problems durning mating with a few pulling to many feathers out around the head.
You might dim the light there getting inside the cage to prevent fighting. Lots of fun to you

Y'ALL ARE MISSING A BASIC HERE... QUAIL ARE (IN NATURES DESIGN) A SEASONAL BREEDER... AM I THE ONLY 1 WHO'S NOTICED THE DAYS GETTING LONGER? THEIR NATURAL BREEDING CYCLE IS TRIGGERED AND RUN BY FULL SPECTRUM DAYLIGHT... WHICH WE'RE SLOWLY BUT SURELY GETTING MORE OF EACH DAY EACH WEEK. RISING HORMONES= NASTY AGRESSIVE BEHAVIORS ASSOCIATED WITH BREEDING SEASON. IN MY EXPERIENCE THE WHITES ARE THE EARLIEST TO MATURE SEXUALLY AND MOST PROLIFIC AT REPRODUCTION... COULKD BE THEY ARE MORE EASILY "TRIGGERED" BY A LESSER AMOUNT OF LIGHT THAN OTHER STRAINS?
