So, whoever said Free Range chcickens may be laying elsewhere.....

From the photo it looks like your nesting boxes are out in the open pen or run. They really like darker more sheltered areas.

WOW...you're good. That is in fact an Oak acorn.

Well, low and behold, four eggs this am in their nesting boxes.
Funny how I switched the nesting boxes in a different position
(enter from top instead of side) and BAM.....eggs. It seems they all lay in the same place now, altogether taking turns maybe?

<I heard that most laying is done in the morning..Wouldnt it help to keep them locked up til around 11am then let them out? then maybe most of the eggs will have been laid in the coop?? Just a suggestion..>

I don't know about everyone else's chickens but I almost NEVER get eggs before noon. Once I went out at 3 pm and still had nothing, a few hours later I checked again and I had three eggs. I know they were just trying to trick me! I have to leave my birds locked up in the run until at least 2 or 3 pm before letting them out to run because I'm worried about the eggs ending up all over the half acre of pasture.

For some that might be true , BUT I pick up eggs in the morning and late afternoon .

They have a coop and run combination , so they go in to lay and come back out into the run area . Sure am glad I dont have to have an Easter Egg Hunt daily .

OH I would not have thrown those eggs out before testing if they were good or not

That is alot of eggs! Put them in a bowl or sink full of water and if they sink they are good! If they float totally then throw them out.
