So, why ARE call ducks hard to hatch?

If it was just the bill size they'd have trouble whether they're hatching in an incubator or under a hen. Mine don't have any issues when they're under a hen and they're pretty good quality with small bills.

Definitely pet quality. I don't know if that's it or not. Like I said, last summer, any Call eggs I tried to hatch, none were a success.

It definitely makes you think. I'll be getting Call eggs from different sources once more people that have Call eggs available have them for sale. I'm going to be purchasing both show and pet quality.

I think I may also see what the breeders are feeding their Calls. An informal research study of sorts.

The eggs i hatched were pet quality but they had the same short bills as show quality and i have since sold these.
I now have 3 pairs of Breeder Quality from Ricky & Janet Collins line i can not call them show quality because they are their culls from their flock. (not show worthy)
However because they came from their show lines i could possibly hatch a Show Quality Call and show them myself

My white Call pair back in august laid about 13 eggs and i gave her 9 to set at the first candling one had stopped developing and then at hatch 7 hatched out completely and the one that didn't hatch never pipped.
I had 7 very active and healthy little fuzz butts

I'm still thinking genetics and something to do with the hatching process of a incubator.
I will let mine set if they are so inclined too and if not put them in the incubator and go from there as to what my future hatching plans will be
