Soap Makers Help!

I wondered this myself?? or would the lye turn the Pam into soap right along with the other oils?

it wasnt toooo hard to get my heart molds out .. buuuut.. i did have to compleatly turn the mold inside out to get them.

Yes--any oil-based spray will just get saponified during the process. Plus you've now added chemicals to your nice, natural soap!

What I find with silicone is that the soap comes out of it like glass, slick as a whistle...as long as I'm patient and wait for it about twice as long as I wait to unmold other batches. The deep Uplands block mold that I have takes a really long time to set all the way into the corners.

With my silicone mold I waited less than 24 hours and, sitting on the kitchen table, they just popped out.

The reason I asked about cooking spray is that I have seen in recipes to pour your soaps into a lined or well greased mold ... so what would one 'grease' with?

I'm probably going to make a log mold. (I think that's what they're called) So I can cut some normal type bars as well.

Last night me and my family had visitors from church and one of the men was very interested in having me teach him how to make soap. He said he thinks that it would be an extremely important skill have. He was very impressed.

I can't think of a darn thing that wouldn't become incorporated into the soap itself.

If you're handy enough to make log molds that come apart for easy unmolding, you could have a bunch of soapers beating a path to your door!

Uh oh, it would appear that I may have to hide my GPS coordinates then.

Vaseline is petroleum based product that will not saponify and can be used in any plastic mold...be conservative with it....it will make the soaps sticky. I use it in my PVC pipe molds....when making a round bar!

VERY NICE soaps Don....I love the tallow consistency! It most definitely stays much whiter too! I think we are all women here...but I must tell you....I learned ALL my soaping from my Chemistry teacher in high school!! He was this short tweed coat and long beard wearing man! He also taught Biology...so he taught me hatching too...he also doubled as my 4H coach. That was in Houston Texas...over 20 years ago! WOW...I just dated myself!

Welcome to all the new folks...I'm proud to have been able to contribute to the soaping addiction!

Don, I hope your surgery goes well tomorrow and that you are back to soaping soon.

I made a wonderful shampoo bar yesterday and couldn't
resist trying it out. It is so smooth and I didn't need conditioner. I think I'll have to make some more soon so I can have some that actually has time to cure the proper time.

Thanks so much for your well wishes, they are appreciated! (As are any prayers that folks might wanna send up, grin) It's supposed to take about hours ... fun fun.

BUT ... I got a brainstorm today (it hurt too!) and I ran to Lowes and got a few things to try an idea. If it works, I think it will probably be a hit. However, no sneaky's 'till I test it out.

That shampoo sounds awesome! I can remember the last time I used shampoo myself ... my barber is Mr Bic Razor.

My wife on the other hand has LONG dark hair ... I might have to make some of that too.

Now, y'all gotta quit this ... I'm already makin' soap, she wants me to make lotion and bath bombs, I'm fixin to make shaving soap and now shampoo too? ARGH!
