Soap Makers Help!

The general rule is $1 per ounce, so I would say $5/bar is not unreasonable.

my tank. It was so worth the money to me.

I was dreaming about the Tank the other night lol. Oh that is bad. I'm dreaming about soap molds.

I can't count the number of soap dreams I've had. I'm just really lucky I don't sleep walk anymore. My mom found me in the barn one time. I can't remembe what she said I was doing. Sleep walking and lye don't mix!

BB, I look aound on one of the forums and they said to plan that 1% of the people will buy 1-3 things each. So 1% is 680 people who buy average of 2 bars that would be 1360 bars.

Thanks for the info. Eeek. 1360 bars is over 4 batches a week for the next 10 weeks. OK, that's probably doable. However . . . Where are we going to put nearly 1400 bars of soap???

Are you going to be the only one making? You can let them cure in the open air for a week or two and then move them to some rubbermaid containers to finish. That would be easier to store than bars everywhere.

I'll probably make the majority of them but the gals will help, especially with wrapping.

As far as storing, if we have to leave them out for a couple of weeks, then we could have as many as 8 batches out at once. There is not really anywhere on the church campus to store them. We've been stuffing them into choir robe closets (at least their robes smell nice!) behind chairs in the staff offices, and at our own homes, of course.

If you discount the water, they are not going to need that much open air time, so at the end of the week you could move them to the boxes to make a little room sooner.

If you lived closer I would love to help you. Of course, if you lived closer, and put out your bars to dry outside right now, cure time would be like 2 days. It is miserably hot and dry right now.

Rather than look at doing several batches over the week, why not do several on one day. Of course that means that you will have to dump somebody's clothes out of their drawers, but it would mean that 6 of your 7 days would be soapless. Then the task wouldn't seem so hopeless......AAAAACK I am starting to rhyme...must be the heat.

Morgaine I'm brainless today. How much clay do I use per pound again? I want to soap today becasue my mold is freed up and I wanted to use the clay you sent but for the life of me I just can't remember

It depends on what color you want. I use 1 tablesppon for 4 pounds of oils and get a nice dusty rose color. 2 tablespoons give a nice dark raspberry color. I would not go over 1 tbl ppo or else it'll get drying. Milk soaps will also be darker with less clay.
