Soap Makers Help!

Nice soaps and drying racks cheeptrick! I'm in need of some drying racks unless I can get some of this product out of my house.

At this point in time, I have four batches drying and one that'll be cut today. Then, I'm going to start another batch today as well.

Yesterday I cut the natural chamomile infused bars and made a Goats Milk, Oatmeal, and Almond batch. I used the TSC 2/3 distilled water, 1/3 goats milk technique and had no problems with scorching. Perhaps next time I'll try half and half.

Today I'm making Rosemary and Lavender. I have some of the rosemary from the church garden infusing some olive oil and will use a lavender EO.

Today, I'm going to the local hardware store that supposedly carries that brand of lye. Crossing fingers and hoping they'll have some. Otherwise, I'm just about out.

I'd love to participate in the soap swap if I can work it out as I'd love for recommendations to improve my product. At this point, I no longer own any supplies since I've been reimbursed for them all. Because I pay for my own soap as a part of the fundraiser, it would cost me an arm and a leg to participate. I suppose if the number of members aren't too big that'd be OK. Or, perhaps I can make arrangements to buy back some supplies for training purposes. How many folks are participating at this point?

I just successfully layered melt and pour glycerin soap on top of goatsmilk soap. I will post a picture of it after it is cut. It is so lovely...and WOW the RED glycerin soap on top of the gorgeous white creamy cold process soap is so beautiful. You have to layer it when it is just setting up for the glycerin to stick to the cold process soap. I LIKE it because it covers up the soda ash that would have formed when it was exposed to the air. I'll post tomorrow when I cut my 4 batches how they turned out.

Does anyone have a good recipe they can recommend for a shaving soap? Some of the guys from church are requesting one. I think I could pull off a Pringles can sized one with the lye I have on hand.

How many ounces of oils fit in the Pringles can?

It should not cost too much $$...you'd just be out 1 bar of soap and GET 10 bars in return. You could sell them too if you so chose. We have 4 folks who are interested so far...if we could get 10 that would be fabulous! NinjaPoodles said she'd coordinate it. We could just all ship her 1 bar of soap...include recipe and $ for parcel post from Arkansas to your address...I'll weigh 10 bars of soap in a box just for kicks and see how much it'll weigh for postage estimations. My bars typically run between 4.5 and 5 ozs as I'm sure you all are probably the same.

My box of 10 bars of soap weighed in at...3lbs...just to make it easier...why don't we use 7x7x6 boxes at the post office to ship our 1 bar to NP priority mail that WAY NP would not have to get new boxes to ship the 10 she could just reverse the addresses and use the same box...it should cost appx $4.80 might be more for you BYBuddies because you will be shipping from furtherest zone. From here to bentonville it would cost $9.80 flat rate priority mail to ship 10 bars of soap weighed and rounded up to 3.5lbs.

?? I've only participated in one and it was VERY fun and interesting to see others products and soaps. I got a GREAT buttermilk lotion soap in a TIN along with 9 bars of cp soap. I used the buttermilk soap up in like 1 DAY...it was so fabulous!

NP how did you do your swaps?

Oh and you folks JUST starting out...do not be shy. Some of my best bars were my first ones. HOW fun would that be to have a swap right after X-Mas!! 2009 BYC

Soap Swap!!

Are you or NP going to head up the swap?

I think it is important that we state what soap we will make to trade so that we don't end up with 7 bars of apple jack or some other popular flavors as swap backs.

NP is heading it up as she stated in her post...I was just answering BYBuddies questions. Yes...we commited to making 10 different recipes of soaps. Maybe since NP has done this more than most of us we should leave it up to her? Since she is going to be doing all the work anyhow...
