Soap Makers Help!

Backyard buddies,
If you are referring to the silicone molds by Wilton that are cupcake size, those are wonderful molds. Walmart has some of those right now in the shape of snowflakes and I have been sorely tempted to buy them. I think I have also seen some of the silicone ice cube trays. Those would make great molds too and look great when sprinkled in a basket with larger soaps. The smaller molds (ice cube and candy size molds will not go through the gel phase unless they are seriously insulated or put in a warm oven.

I found Lye

One little local hardware stocks it. Apparently several people in the area are soapers, so they're still carrying it. Yay. So I got 4 pounds. Should get me thru Christmas.
Last nights batch was our coven oil or Dragonsblood, Sandalwood, Frankincense and Myrrh. Today i'm doing Candy Cane and Sugar Cookie.
I'm doing CPHP. Anyone else do hot process?

The ones that I saw were in the dollar section, so they were quite inexpensive, which appeals to my cheap nature.

I doubt that they were Wilton (at that price) but they looked every bit as good quality as the Wilton ones I've seen elsewhere in the store. At that price, I may just pick some up and try them for next year's Christmas soaps.

For those of you having a difficult time finding lye, if you have an Ace Hardware in your area, they do carry the Rooto brand of 100% lye. If they don't have them in the store, you can order online and have them shipped to the store for free! My local Ace Hardware also told me that they'd order them for me any time I needed them.

Got a stupid ? about the ash that forms on top sometimes. What causes this and do you have to trim it off? Told ya they were dumb. I have already trimmed it off but was still wondering

Dang! Should have grabbed the molds from the dollar section when I saw them. When I went back today, someone had snatched them up.

cockadoodlemom - There's no such thing as a dumb question.

I don't think you *have* to trim it off, but often people do because it creates a more uniform look. The TSC book has a long discussion of what this is (or isn't) on pages 180 - 181 of the book.

Uh oh! This is the same brand that I bought at Ace Hardware. I found it in their online store. They'd ship to your local store for free. However, it appears that it's no longer on their website and is now discounted which makes me wonder if they're planning to discontinue it. I sure hope not!

For what it's worth, I paid about $50 with tax (no shipping), so $41 is still a discounted price even with the shipping. I don't think even Camden Grey (in FL but not close to you) can beat that price!

I say go for it!
