Soap Makers Help!

chiknwhisperer That looks nice! I bet she will love it.

breconbcs Those soaps look yummy. I bet they smell great too. How did you do your swirls? Did you mix in the pot and then pour in your mold or swirl in te mold?

We had our first day at the market and then at a local winery festival. We were "Spotted" by the local paper. Here is a link to the picture. http://spotted.theeagle.com/pages/photo_page.php?mm=102346&gallery=42400 Isn't my hubby cute! He was great even if he looks grumpy in the photo.

We made $227 over what we took and spent at the other vendors. The other vendors said the market was slow that day, but I think we did pretty well. It was fun and I look foward to doing it next week.

Towards the end of the Rose and wine festival you could tell the people who had 'sampled' too much wine. I had one guy come back and wanted to know if I had any more vanilla soap. I said I didn't make a vanilla, and he actually argued with me that yes I did, lol. I just told him I must have sold out then. I was the only soaper there too.

The rosemary mint and Floral Spice (lavender, rosemary, cinnamon eo blend) were the big sellers. I only have 2 of rm and 3 fs left. The lavender and goat's milk didn't sell as well as I thought it would. I didn't sell a single unscented soap. I need to get somemore of those made.

You guys did GREAT!!! Is this a special festival or is it a weekly thing?

How cool that you were "spotted" at the festival! And yes, you and hubby are both cute!

I may not make any more unscented soaps. Of my original soaps I made last fall, the unscented is the only one I still have bars of. Other soaps I made at that time have been through second or third batches that have sold out. I realize that some people enjoy an unscented soap and need it for their allergies, but they're fewer in number than those who are more influenced by scents.

I'll keep it in stock because I don't have to worry about scent loss with it and if it sits for a while it's ok. But yeah it's not a big seller.

Good point. And, from a cost perspective, there's a higher profit margin on a soap without scent, assuming you didn't add other luxury items to it to increase cost.

breconbcs - Those look great! I have a friend who is nuts about orange cream scents.

Two hour drive or not, it's really neat to be able to drive and sniff.

I have a zillion relatives in Ontario (my grandmother was born there) so I know how much open space there is. It's so beautiful up there.

No it's my basic recipe with nothing else added. I wish more people bought because there is a higher profit, but it evens out some of the soaps that have a more expensive scent.

On one of the soaping forums, this really cool sight was posted and I wanted to share it with y'all.

http://www.rivercitysoaps.com/dwcp/watercalc.php

This will help you to know what your lye solution is. The on line calculators use the weight of oils as to how much water to use. But this goes based on the amount of lye you are using because different recipes will weigh the same but have different lye amounts. I thought it was very cool. I added a link to the reference thread. I also added more places where I found different packaging for soap. If you have anything to add, post it and I'll add it to the list.

Congrats!!!! That is so cool!
I gave my friend that soap box I made her. We had a potluck after church today and I saw her at a table with a bunch of other ladies and they were passing all the soaps around
