Soap Makers Help!

Oh man... I could spend a mint fortune on EO! I really like peppermint, spearmint, rosemary, basil, sage, rose geranium, chamomile, rose, dancy tangerine (though a really good one was hard to find).... Um, I'm sure there are way more... I should stop thinking about this!

Though I haven't made soap in a while my friend and I have discussed doing another batch again some time. But I want a stick blender or drill extension before we do it again...

Wait... stop it people!

You'll never stp soaping again.

So lets talk about EO blends. What are your favorite combos? I really enjoy rosemary and mint (1.5 oz/.5 oz to 4lb oils) I also enjoy Lavender, rosemary and cinnamon( 2 oz/1.5 oz/.5 oz 4 lb oils) I have just mixed equal parts lemongrass and ose geranium eo to soap later. I like this! Tangy, earthy and sweet.

To our latest addicts - Welcome to soaping!

Should we all take bets to see how long it takes before insiderart gives in to the temptation??

chiknwhisperer - Your table is looking nice! Can't wait to see the final product on the weekend. Be sure to take pix!

TM Chickens - Look around for an old desk drawer to use as a mold. Mine is working great. One of these days I hope to have one of those fancy-schmancy molds, but until then this works great.

Parson's Wife - Gotta watch out about those church fundraisers.

That's what I'm doing with mine. We operate a garden in the "Back 40" at the church and donate the produce to the needy. The money raised from the soap sales help to pay for the seeds, water, plants, etc. There are some things you need to watch for in this type of a fundraiser - namely at which point do you cross the line from non-profit fundraiser to business and therefore need to file taxes. The soap sales at church have become so popular and have been given to friends and family who then also want to buy. We're currently seeking legal and tax advice about our "outside" sales. If you already have a church bookstore under that umbrella, you may be OK lumping these sales through there. PM me if you want to discuss this further. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this as well.

I got my EOs

The Anise really smells like black licorice, the peppermint smells earthy, very nice. Vanilla smells awesome, just like when I make sugar cookies. The lemongrass is a lot earthy then I thought it would be but I think I like it. I still haven't tried any chancy blends except for the sun ripened raspberry and strawberry delight in that layered soap I made.

Peppermint oob does have an earthyness to it, but once soaped all you get is the mint. Yum. Ok, I got confused on the anise, I thought it was a floral. I'll let you know if the lemongrass loses the earthyness after being soaped later. I think it does discolor.

I've got three batches set to soap after dinner.

You people are bad bad bad!!!! Keep on and it won't be long. Apparently I'm susceptible to all kinds of things right now.....

My favorite blend is peppermint, rosemary, sage, and basil. MMMMMmmmmm

I used to make a really nice chamomile/tangerine body powder, and a nice rose geranium/lavender body powder.

I do like a really nice lavender though for using in my spray bottle when ironing. I have peppermint in my spraybottle for when I moisten my hair to try to take control of it...

Stop! This is not good!

Anyone ever try half and half containers??

I'm really getting into them since we drink A LOT of coffee with cream so I have such a supply of them....

It's easy to unmold them. The only bad thing is it does take 2 days for you to be able to unmold them since they seem to keep the heat in really well.... For MP it's more like a day....

I like the square bars... I'm still learning to cut straight but the rustic look is sort of nice...
