I was thinking my mother would enjoy making soap and I could use instead of buying it for the family. But have no idea what type or what recipies are good and what are not. I would like to use some fress herbs or flowers or something from my gardens and olive oil smelling good is of no real consern for me as I usually try for unsented products anyway. I would like to make it organically (or should I say have her make it organically) I guess I would need 2 types really one that was really mild for my sister who has horrible allergies and needs something non drying for her exzima (sp?) and something for the body with a scrub in it. I used one of ms prissy's that had niger seeds in it I believe and that was awesome.

If anyone has any simple recipies for beginners, or any tips or advise I would really appreciate it

Why don't you come on over to the soap makers thread, there is a ton of info there. There is also a recipe thread and a reference thread too. HTH

When I started making soap I made 4-5 lb batches.I had it every where. My DH ask Please dont make any more soap.
I had to make different scents.
I have now found a small batch recipe to have fun with.

Basic white soap
1 cup cold distilled water
2 Tbs. lye
1 cup tallow
you can scent and color any you wish.
