Soaping Recipe Swap

I don't have much time, hubby went to the store, but here is mine. I'm putting it in percents that way you can plug the amount you need for your mold into Soapcalc.com

Almond oil 5%
Castor oil, 5%
Coconut oil 20%
Olive oil 35%
Palm oil 20%
Rice Bran or Soybean oil, 15%

Superfat 7%

Salt Bars
Coconut oil 80%
Shea Butter 10%
Castor oil 10 %

Superfat 20 %
Add the same amount of salt as you do coconut oil. Make sure you cut as soon as soap finishes gelling or else it will be crumbly.

I used a standard soap recipe but sub'd the water for hibiscus tea and I added a small amount of ground hibiscus at trace. You can buy it in a bag at Walmart in the veggie section.

I was hoping for a really red or fushia color but the soap turned tan. You can still see the flecks of ground up hibiscus and they are kinda red. I believe I HP it, maybe it would be better for CP.

My first soap post....chickens AND soap....I'm in trouble!

I misplaced my strawberry soap recipe. It's nothing fany and just scented with strawberry delight but I sold out in no time. One person bought my last ten bars because him and his wife liked it so much. As soon as I locate it it'll be up here.

Here is a CP recipe for a nice bar that uses Coconut milk, Aloe Vera juice and water as the liquid.

It makes a great base recipe. I like a Fragrance mix I call "Tropical Cooler.

Here's the recipe: I've put the SAP for each oil.

112 oz. Tallow (beef) x (.134) 15.00
2 oz Jojoba x (.134) .13
4 oz Coconut oil x (.1805) .72
4 oz Palm Kernal oil x (.148) .59
12 oz Olive Oil evoo x (.128) 1.53
134 oz total oils 17.97 oz lye

134 x .38 liquid factor = 50.92 oz of liquid (I discount the .92 because of the coconut milk)
Liquid: 24 oz coconut milk
18 oz aloe vera juice
8 oz water

Mix the chilled liquids in a bowl set in cold water. Add the lye in small portions and stir until disolved. Leave in water bath until ready to use.

Melt oils and turn off heat...110 - 115 degrees

Use handheld mixer and stir til trace

I add this fragrance mix for my Tropical Cooler
3 TBS Grapefruit oil OR 3 TBS orange oil
1/2 tsp Rosemary EO
2 tsp Ylang Ylang EO
1 TBS orange extract
4 TBS dried ground Tangerine skin....I cut this so there is very little white pulp, dry and grind in my coffee grinder

This recipe gives a cream colored white bar with a nice lather. The Tangerine gives it a nice speckle.

I can fill my soap mold 4" x 3" x 28"

Made some today...will try to post pictures later.

Have you noticed if your bars made with aloe very juice are a bit softer in the final bars? I have one batch that I made with 100% aloe juice and it stayed soft forever it seemed. At first I thought it was the clay, but my other clay batches were very hard. I haven't used aloe juice as all my liquid since, only up to 50% and haven't had that problem anymore.

I use 100% aloe juice and when I CP they do take longer to dry but in the end they are pretty hard.

I haven't tried using clay. Are you using a lot of olive oil?

I use the aloe vera juice as 1/3 - 1/2 of my liquid in some of my recipes. The higher the percentage the longer it takes to harden.

I've gone to a better processed juice now and am happier with the results.

It depends on the amount of "solid" oils also. There is a lot of solid oil in this recipe.

Posted photo with the recipe above.
