Hello, my exisiting flock is just three 6 year old hens. I have a small two floor coop converted from a child’s playhouse. (I Cannot fit in there and kneel through front door to clean). I raised four pullets beginning in March. I now find the existing hens will not let younger girls up on the roosting bars at night- the four younger birds huddle on first floor. Any suggestions on how i can get older birds to let younger girls sleep upstairs? The older birds will not even let new girls near food when they are around ( i added second feeding station under an umbrella).
Thanks for any suggestions.

Add /connect another playhouse, a hutch with a roost or a small coop to the current playhouse or run.
They need a safe place where they can go to roost.

Another possibility is to make the playhouse bigger, add roost space and a second entrance. Maybe divide the space until they get used to each other.

How are the older birds around the younger ones outside of the coop?

Any photos of the set up? Sounds like maybe the coop is too small so the older birds are protecting the space. How many roosts do you have and/or how far apart are they? Helps a lot to have a separate roost away from the older birds when youngsters are integrating.
