not another darn tax increase/add!
and it's an 'obesity tax' to boot! what the hell kind of absurdity is that!?! yes it's common knowledge that americans are fat! get over it! lol I don't think it will help anything but the higher up's wallets. If anything it'll probably make the problem worse just like with the 'sin tax' for smoking and drinking (alcohol)
all politicians need to die in a fire

Well, then the old timey cameras must add 100 lbs because if you look at pictures of my ancestors they are big 'ol people.
Now, what you say is somewhat true. Could I weigh less? Yes, indeed. Could my entire family weigh less? Oh yeah. Do I have the most perfect eating and exercise habits? Nope. I confess to hating the gym. Do I sit on my tushie in front of the TV all day and cram my face with ho-hos and ding-dongs? Nope. If I am not at work (a job where I move around all day), I am outside working on the yard and the coops. As you know, that's a never ending project.
What I object to is your blanket statement that all fat people should be taxed. Doesn't matter whether this is a tax on healthcare or directly on the fat people themselves. It is not a fair statement. It's also a slippery slope to start down with our gov't. Sure... tax those people. I'm not like that so it's okay. (It hints of the attitude in the early days in Germany before the second world war. "Punish the Jews? Okay. I'm not Jewish." There were unfathomable consequences there when part of the citizenry ignored the gov't picking on other parts.)
When you start picking out one segment of the population because of their body type, then you are heading down a horrible path. What's to say that fair skinned people won't be next? They have a higher rate of skin cancer. We can go on and on with this one.
Yes. There is a huge obesity problem in this country. Taxing it is not the cure. Trust me when I say I have tried to get help with my weight problems. If I was a crack addict there would be programs galore to help me break the habit. If I were addicted to alcohol doctors would fall over over themselves to help me out. Because I am fat, they look at me with disgust and tell me to have more self-control. I'm not stupid. I know that eating less and exercising more would help me. For a variety of reasons I can't seem to make that work and I can't seem to get help with the problem.
Will a tax on soft drinks make me less fat? Nope. I don't drink soft drinks. That's not what is making me fat.
I understand that our taxes pay for schools, roads and a lot of positive necessary items.
However...............
All of our, as well as almost everyone I know, pennies are stretched to the limit. We are barely keeping our home out of foreclosure.
Pepsi is one of my last guilty hidden pleasures.
I'm beginning to think that it is only a matter of time before they figure out how to tax LAUGHTER, LOVE, AND PERSONAL FAITH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

All the same stuff could be said for smokers. Did they catch a break - NOPE, they get hit with the biggest tax around, so why is it fair to tax them for their nicotine addiction, but not someone else for their food addiction?
Folks should have been YELLING in support of NOT taxing smokers, but instead everyone turned a blind eye - because smokers are BAD, they can quit anytime right? NOBODY gave a darn about the smokers, and that tax got implemented, so now you're all fair game, just one at a time.
I can see where people will get around this tax, maybe ramshackle bottling plants in the woods late of a night. Selling packets of sugar in dark alleys. Nope this is not going to work, we need to put scales at the checkouts of every store and tax people by their weight as they buy their food.
