Soffit vent and chicken wire

Good enough to climb a vertical wall and hold on while it breaks through chicken wire covering a 3.5” gap?
Yes totally good enough for that and they break through chicken wire in no time - like it isn't even an issue for them.
Trim boards make it look totally neat and tidy from the outside. I will try and get a picture of mine when I next go out - currently nasty downpour so I came in to warm up!

The problem with chicken wire even up high is the raccoons are great climbers.
The wall is nearly 6 feet high. And there’s not much for a raccoon to climb on. Plus i did one vent last night and i literally shoved it in the vent, i doubt that chicken wire is coming out😂 Plus, i’ve never had a problem with raccoons because everything is secure in the old coop, and i know there’s raccoons around here

Minks. Think minks. Read my second post. There are other predators to protect against bedsides racoons.

I have honestly never seen a mink here in NJ. The only thing i would be worried about is a opposum or squirrel… but the opening is like 2 inches and that chicken wire it shoved in it, i can’t even get it out if i pull hard enough 😂

Just because you've never seen one doesn't mean they aren't there. They are most active at night, small and very smart at evading notice. You may find out the hard way. It may take a while. That is your choice. Good luck.

Also rats, who love chicken too. We have hardware cloth inside, with trim boards around helping to secure it. We all have some weasel variety, believe me! And rats, and raccoons, who are all capable of climbing that wood wall.

If they are around my area i’m sure they would’ve tried to already get in the coop we have now, considering there is a small gap between the run and the coop, maybe 1-2”😂 Never seen one on the run or coop camera
