Quick question, would it be better to put chicken wire inside or outside of the soffit vent in the coop?

I put mine on the outside about 6 years ago. Have had no problems, and have the small bonus of another hiding place for the chickens’ cat.

Neither.
I'd put 1/2" hardware cloth outside and put trim board over it to help really secure it.

I would but money is a factor right now and we still have to build the run😅 I could always fix it in the future too

I put them inside, so the exterior looks cleaner and less like an afterthought. Chicken wire would probably work fine as not many predators could get there, but I went with 1/2" HC so no small rodent could pass through.
Yes that’s what we have, 1/2” HC, i was thinking the same thing, so it doesn’t look like “oh shoot i forgot that”

The problem with chicken wire even up high is the raccoons are great climbers.

A mink could just squeeze right through.
It happened to my DHs daughter. The little thing killed her entire flock in one night. It climbed the wood wall and got in through the chicken wire covered soffit.
Good enough to climb a vertical wall and hold on while it breaks through chicken wire covering a 3.5” gap?
