We have recently been getting soft eggs. We usually get five hard eggs a day, and maybe one soft shell every three days. And also, the soft egg is never in the nesting box, it is under their roost.

Why are these soft eggs happening, and how can we stop it?

Are you offering your hens oyster shell? Some hens have more of a need for extra calcium than others.

There have been several posts on this subject. Make sure they have oyster shell available. I was told by an old timer, that it is a mineral/vitamin problem. I was told to give the girls a little cod liver oil. The cod liver oil helps correct the mineral/vitamin problem and helps the hen absorb the calcium she takes in and helps get them in sync. Whenever I have a soft egg I give the cod liver oil and it fixes them right up.....joe

They are fed crumbles with visible oyster shell in them, and they get wetted pellets am/pm which are supposed to have oyster shell in them too. we'll try the cod liver oil approach.
