Solar power for my coop - I wanna be Green

PC said "Finally I replaced all the normal bulbs in the coup with compact flourescent bulbs.
The chickens seem ok with it and continue to lay a good amount of eggs, reducing
the carbon trail required to deliver eggs to my fridge."

I don't know, PC, I don't think flourescent bulbs are green......they have some chemicals in them. You might be making your chicken eggs radioactive.
And if your coop has a bathroom, you could do what they did years ago before toilet paper was invented- use newspaper, then you can call it duel-purpose paper.

I bet that set up was not expensive and could be done with ease. thanks for the idea.

I admit that this thread started off with a sarcastic wishlist. I really would do these
things if I could afford it. Now it's become and actual intellegent discussion on low
cost low energy coup improvements.

God really does have a wonderful sense of humor.

non mechanical means of cooling the coop, could be done by purchasing a cobra 2 ridge vent from home depot or Lowes for about $10.00 for a 4" length, it provides a weather seal while letting hot air to escape and is easy to install.

I have 2 18"x18" gable vents with a thermostatically controlled fan on one side. In
the winter I put a pience of foam in front of them. We also have an old AC unit in the
oop/shed/barn but have not used i yet because the dus colgs it up so bad.

6'7" Wow. That's cool. Thinking green is fine when it reduces the amount of junk
we are putting into the air we breathe, water we drink, or land we live on. The
key is not letting companies or individuals take "Green" and turn it into a marketing
term. Most people, even moderate conservatives like me, do think this way.

Thanks for joining in on this thread.
