Soldier Gifts for Those In Iraq....AWESOME pics!!!!

Athena,

My son is sick so I've been offline.

Glad you got the packages. We are so proud of everyone serving our country. We would love to help as much as we can. If you can just keep us updated with what you need most we will try to send out a package every few weeks. I am still trying to get a hold of some soccer balls. We have put the word out to friends and family to give us any extra they have.

My husband is deploying to Afghanistan in jan. I hope they have something similar to Troy's Place over there! What a great job you are doing!!

BTW, we aren't greek, the name is lithuanian (everyone makes that assumption with the name). To make a short story long my mother in law is lebanese, and also happens to be eastern orthodox so when people see my husband w/ the dark complexion, name, and rare appearance at the "greek" church, everyone assumes he is greek. He usually just tells people he is greek so he doesn't have to explain

Shows a C-17 with troops lined up, getting ready to head home...

Its dusk, sun is setting, and the photos that were taken and posted in our paper are spectacular.

I wanted to share...

Really???...

Hmmmm, as I thought, by the time I had gotten back to Troy's, some 6 hours later,... all of them were gone...

This is the perfect food item to send... (esp. to Drew).. Like I said, protein and portable. A meal in a pinch, and so many are in that situation here..

I had no idea Dollar Tree had that in their inventory ...Im sure they are even cheaper than Wal-Mart or grocery stores for those tuna and chicken packs!! Good find!

Im going to update my donation list to go to Dollar Tree for that item!!

Sandra...

I hope your son is better now... I know we all here have been feeling the effects of the weather changing.. Still not as cold as where you are, but, this is the desert, and when the sun goes down, it does chill waaaay down!!

A few weeks ago, I had to report to sick call, and sure enough, I had an infection of my head, sinus's..etc... I was just miserable, everything ached..
There are things here in the air ... everyone gets sick when they first get here, then when their bodies get acclimated, you become somewhat resistent. Couple that, with the change in weather and it seemed everyone got sick. They doubled the anti-biotics for me that first day, and it about knocked me out! But, I got my first day off in 8 months.. course, I was in bed !!! You know, what would we do without meds like that??? They have it so that within 24 hours, one (or two) pills can just about cure you...back in the old days, it lingered for weeks, you felt like you were dying, and in some cases, thats just what happened. We have come such a long way!!

Wow, your husband is deploying... and to Afghanistan,... to be very honest, our base is a cake walk compared to Afghanistan.. in terms of amenities.. So, once he gets established, and has an address, I would send him those tuna and chicken packs from Dollar Tree.. They are a meal in a pinch and would beat c-rations on any day! (Altho, those meals have improved over the years!)

Also, he can email you, then if he needs anything in a pinch, you email me...and I can send a FOB box to him. Be aware that mailing to him will take alot longer than to me... I have been told that some of my FOB boxes take up to 6 weeks (even from here) to receive at distant end... due to where they are, terrain, etc... But it will get there..by plane, convoy, .... just like the postman, ....snow, sleet...lol... have patience, it will get there!

There are certain things I have on hand.. ALL the time... coffee is one... Tea, cocoa ... We have a church group out of Conneticut, that has its own coffee lable. They have promised to keep sending coffee till every troop comes home from Iraq and Afghanistan... and so, we have plenty of coffee.

ok, I have to go... will finish this post later..

I am sending this along to all the BYC'rs pass it on

A GOOD REASON TO DO CARDS OR AT LEAST 1.........
When doing your Christmas cards this year, take one card and send it to
this address. If we pass this on and everyone sends one card, think of
how many cards these wonderful special people who have sacrificed so
much would get.

A Great Idea!!!

When you are making out your Christmas card list this year, please
include the following:
A Recovering American Soldier
c/o Walter Reed Army Medical Center
6900 Georgia Avenue,NW
Washington , D.C. 20307-5001

Good Morning ALL...

I learned of a group of Army troopers in Afghanistan that needed some items in a hurry, so sent two boxes... from blankets to phone cards to razors, shampoo, snacks, coffee, hot chocolate, baby wipes, etc... 75 lbs worth...

Their personal belongings held up somewhere...and this is to tide them over. I have no idea when they will get it tho...

Probably sending a few more boxes beginning next week.
