Some Hook Bill Photos

Lovely photos and great looking ducks. The feathers are so striking - don't know if that's partly due to the white bib or not, but you've certainly thrown another breed out there for me to think about.

Thanks for sharing!

because their bills have a slight "hook" shape to them.
take a look at the profile pics again and you can see how the bill starts kinda high and bends down just a bit:)

Is there such a thing as a "Kill Bill" duck? or a "phone bill duck?" or a "utility Bill duck"? or a "repair bill duck"? or a "late Bill duck"? or aaaaaaaaaaaaa

their beak position makes my nose hurt

but they are pretty!

I think I saw written somewhere that when you look at the profile of this breed from the back of the head/neck they should form sort of a loose 'C' shape all the way to the end of the beak to give the hooked look.

They are a very elegant type of duck and have graceful longish necks and slim bodies. Supposedly they lay blue, green or tinted eggs. I'll find out next spring.

I ordered 10 hookbill ducks from Holderread. They sent 2 extras. I lost 2 of them. The other 10 turned out to be 8 males and 2 hens. I also ordered 6 silkie ducks from them and they turned out to be 1 female and 5 males. I plan to order some more from them and hopefully I will get more hens this time. Norman

Yeah, I feel lucky mine were mostly females. I am normally not so lucky! I hope mine breed well next spring, so far I am pretty impressed with them. Can't wait for the boys to get their green heads.

I will try and get some photos of them playing in the brook over the weekend.
