Some Of My Araucana Breeders For Next Year

I've only got two pullets laying right now, one does medium to light blue eggs the other olive on the outside but blue on the inside. I have only been hatching the blue eggs.

I have a variety of cockerels to work with next year, some all black, one blue and yellow, a white, some black that have gold and one wild thing (I don't know how he happened) that hatched looking like a calico cat. His picture is posted on this forum on another thread.

I love the blacks a lot but am taking a huge liking to the non standard colors I have. I do not know what color eggs most of the pullets will lay yet. I am waiting to see. I will only use pullets who lay blue for future breeding though.

I have to agree, the really cool colors are awesome eye candy in the backyard and we like to see them to..really like when the tufts are multi colored..

However we also like to see the standard colors roaming about as well. The best thing to do is keep a mixed group and a standard color pen as well. That way you have the best of both worlds...

not this guy...LOL
I know, black araucana males are really tough to come by,, You dont see many pic's of them and if you do they have alot of bleed through of red or silver colors.
Anybody else got any nice black araucana roo pic's to share..Love to see more...

I just hope this guy stays this way, judging from the hackle and saddle feathers coming in it looks like we hit it good for onced. I dont like his head type, prefer the big bulky style heads, but o well, we'll just mate him to hens with the blocky type heads..sure to get a good black male from that breeding.
However i couldnt even tell you how many chicks we hatched just to get one good solid black male..

Here is a picture of my two pure black double tufted cockerels. The one on the left is out of Claude McCallister and Ken Deavers, the larger one is out of a Ken Deavers male that was much larger then McCallister's line. The silver or birchen is also out of the large Ken Deaver's line but has three tufts and rumpless. He resembles the now extinct Siberian Tufted(which had a tail) with two bi-lateral tufts and a goat-tee type tuft under his chin. Don't mind the LF Lavenders in the background I am going on three years breeding them in many different pro-to types and/or breeds.

. I have to stop following this thread, I am sooo jealous.

Oh My Goodness!!!!! They are beautiful!!!!!!!!!! I sure hope my Black Ameraucana's get that gorgeous green sheen!! Beautiful birds!!! I can't wait to see what you get next spring out of them!

Those black pullets are really pretty! I love them without the tufts! The little girls with no tails are so adorable too. I bet it is hard to find true Araucanas! I've got some Ameraucanas from Gregory Poultry, but I didn't know if they're EEs or any 'true' breed Ameraucana. I need to learn more about them. Do you have pix of your other colors? I would love to see the other colors of Araucanas!
