I think you are right and I also find that people misunderstand that concept no matter where you live. Like it's compulsory to join in the commercial feeding frenzy that is this holiday. Sheaviance1 said it right...you are celebrating it as it should be celebrated, with reverence and thoughtfulness. That's how we do it at my house too!

I do think we are making the holiday what it should be for us. My DH and I had a good talk about what he grew up with and what I did. We agree that it is over pushed to spend more than one has. We are good with our decision.

The co worker and DH had a talk about what was said. I don't think they agree but they came to an understanding.

My kids are all grown and there are no grandchildren. The kids have it rough with limited income if any this year. I never want them to spend more than they can on anything.

I am so glad that I am not the only one that does not wish to have a huge debt come January.
