Somebody please help me!!! It's Phinny's feet. Please!

Never use any lidocaine. Now that being said.... Has Phinney gotten into any acidic matter? Is it a fungus? vs. bacterial? Sometimes vaselines and antibacterial ointments only give fungi a nice place to grow. Tree tea oil is good for bacterial disinfectant and anti fungal. If it is fungal...treatment will have to go on for about 2 weeks. Don't use any more peroxide as it will kill tissue and only give the problem more fodder to grow on.

Going only on your description it sounds like what a few of us are going thru with our roos. Is your roo a feathered footed breed?
Do his feet look like this?:

Has it been raining alot where you are? We (me and Wynette) are puzzling over it. I've tried different things. Coating the legs with vaseline and/or other oils doesn't help, but it may help soothe the feet.
Vet Rx (for scaly legs) doesn't help either.
I am at the present time I am trying a treatment for fungal infection, since we have had heavy rains this year.
Does this sound like what's going on with your roo? If so, you can calm down. It doesn't seem to bother the roo and it doesn't really get worse. It comes and goes.

We won't leave you.

My computer got hung up, my Phinny is on the bathroom vanity crowing, my dog is barking at my bedroom door. I went to get a crate to put Phinny in and some stray dogs were under my trailer and came after me - I dropped the crate with the pine shavings, my shoe flew off, and I barely made it back inside- all with the rain pouring down. y picture would NOTupload - this is abrand new computer but I'm on dial up -sorry all this is taking me so long. I am running clean water and soap to clean out the crate.
Phinny'
s feet look just like JenJScott's photo. Looks nothing like the mite photo.

If your roos feet look just like the thread from jenjscott then I would treat the same way. Looks like they were treated for mites. I would try Bag Balm. It is soothing yet thick enough to kill any mites. Vaseline would work for tonight if you don't have Bag Balm.

Another trick is to mix a little poultry dust with the vaseline and spread that on the feet and legs. Not on any open sores.

Don't forget to treat the coop so no one else gets it. We're going into winter and the mites are looking for a place to hide. Even in Louisiana.

Hope this helps and the roo is better tomorrow. Keep us posted.

**********Take a deep breath and slow down. Right now it's daunting and it is a problem but it's not life threatening. I know you feel panicked but it will be O.K. There are very good people here who have all (most) been in the same situation with a sick hen, rooster or chick. Your roo is in very good caring hands and he knows you won't do anything to hurt him. Do what you can tonight and tomorrow is another day************

DON'T FORGET TO TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF

Bless your heart! You sure are a good chicken mom going through all that! Believe me, I have done similiar things for mine.

Sure hope Phinny(love the name) gets better soon.

It looks just like that - red with swollen follicles - it looks awful...is there a name for it? I put a little Nelson's tea tree cream on it and he didn't seem to mind it. I thought he might be going to die from infection...I can't let him back outside right now -it's just been raining so much here in Louisiana storm after storm after storm. He is never standing in water, but he is out in the pen in the rain every day. He has access to a henhouse with dry, clean shavings. I will keep him inside somehow - guess he'll sleep with me..my dog will be really mad, though.
Should I give him any antibiotic, or just put topical stuff on it and see if it will heal. Will his toenails come back? I appreciate everyone helping me in my time of hysteria.
