Someone Asked for Suede ... Blue Orp Pics

I want to squeeze his fat body!

What a beautiful boy. I love his topline. He is built like an orpington, kind of shorter and squattier to the ground. Love him, he is gorgeous. I could watch him all day.

He's quite a big guy. And his feet are enormous! It can be a problem for him, though, when he jumps down off something, all that pressure on his legs. He sprains a leg on occasion. It's why I built a low roost shelf with plastic garden fencing on a frame rather than a bar. He's doesnt eat anymore than any other bird I have; he's just naturally that large. I do let him and his girls freerange part of almost every day so he gets some exercise, but he's just a Big Blue TURKEY, LOL.

I think maybe it was me in another thread where you posted a buffet of pics. Do you have any pics of your splashes or blacks and blue hens for us to drool over? I keep reading where you are shipping eggs and would like to see the parents. I am seriously thinking of getting some in these colors.

OT - Can a rooster really be too big? My subordinate roo is massive. His weight and height combined with his knock-knees the poor boy is really a klutz. He's six months old and weighs around 11 lbs.
My SO said he's too big. I'm sure he is, but what could I possibly do about it? He rarely gets a chance to mate thanks to my alpha rooster keeping him from it. I think he's finding solace in food.

Kim, I have only one blue hen left. My best one died of sour crop suddenly about two weeks ago. Suede only had three girls and one of them is not going to be used as a breeder anymore, Velvet died and Skye is molting heavily and has been for quite awhile. Here is an older picture of the girls for you, though. Velvet, the girl in the back, passed away. Skye is the one I still have. In the second pic, that is Skye with Suede:

Here is one of the two girls who will be Suede's new wives when they grow a bit:

Honestly, if they're being fed properly, I think they just grow to their genetic potential.
