Devils advocate here. Severe allergies still react to the dander, and a vacuum cannot pick up everything.

I have no issue with small dogs in a cart in Target, but where there is food, there should be no animals. No one animal on this planet is THAT well trained. For that matter kids need to stop picking their noses and wiping it on the Hidden Valley Ranch bottles too.

Sometimes, that is not enough. Why don't you respect the rules and leave the dog at home? The rules are there for a reason. Please, stop asking for an exception. That is a very bad example to your children.

I've had the.... displeasure of renting a hotel room after someone had a dog in there. the carpet was covered in fleas, it was after a long drive, we walked in pulled back sheets flopped in bed and slept, woke the next day covered in bites. Not pleasent. Frankly I don't like dogs. I have no desire to be near them, and certainly don't want them around food I'm going to buy.

Considering that they don't always even change the glasses by the sinks or the comforters on the beds, I don't put much stock in how well the room is cleared of dander from a dog that has been there (especially if the dog was there against the rules so they don't even realize there was a dog in the room). I realize that a person can have some on their clothes, but it can't possibly be nearly as much as the actual dog has.

What does everyone else think about this? Anyone else have problems with people bringing non-service animals into stores and restaurants?

DB

I would say...if the store took the sign down and the clerk had no problem with it, it's one of those MYOB things. If it bothers you muchly, you could just not patronize that particular store anymore. Turning around and telling the woman about it is not really your job nor your concern, unless the dog was hurting or inconveniencing you in some way.

I'm not an animal lover person, by any means, but I do like it when folks mind their own business about minor, nonharmful-to-them kind of things. In the big picture, was it worth taking the time to confront a stranger and call the corporate office?

Mom started taking her non service dog into stores and other places when she's on trips ever since someone called the cops on her for leaving her dog in her vehicle for a few minutes . . . on a cool day with the windows cracked. Frankly, I think everyone ought to take all their dogs into stores every chance they get until people get the point and quit being so quick to think every little thing is cruelty. When my SO worked at Petco he was told that someone had called the authorities for a dog being in a vehicle, and a woman was in the car with the dog, waiting for her husband to finish shopping! I really can't blame people for taking animals into stores when that kind of save-the-animals-that-on-closer-inspection-clearly-do-not-need-saving mentality runs rampant.

I took a quaker on y shoulder into bunnings (large hardware store) have taken birds and dogs into a pet shop but that's it would NEVER take them into anywhere with food. My dad has a seeing eye dog and we get stopped all the time even though he has a sign and a harness

We have a very large service dog for my Grand Daughter.
that out of the way.
Thunder goes everywhere with us EXCEPT the grocery store.
or any other store that has food products. what happens when she is older and on her own will be a different matter.
I feel with this child and her dog, the dog is not needed as long as I or another adult who knows her condition can go from severe high blood sugar to a deadly drop are accompanying her.
The Dog is for when we are on functions through school, at night time when she can not wake her self out of a drop in blood sugar.
He does not wear a vest or certain collar to announce he is a service dog either. He wears a Special Medical Charm on his tags loop. and I carry his Papers with me constantly.
I am not offended when some one asks if he is a Service Animal and honestly I dont see why anyone else should be either.
The Beast is a very large puppy (8 mo) he already weighs over 70 lbs, and if he holds to genetics he will be close to 135 lbs full grown.
Very well behaved on leash, Loved by most who have met him
BUT he is still a puppy in training and has a lot of goofy puppy ways, the most annoying is jumping up on people WHO allow it, there is always a sharp reprimand for puppy and human.
I dont want to be knocked down because some one thought it cute to have him jump up and be as tall or taller than said human.

Thunder Beast is a Giant Malamute. very friendly and very well behaved for a puppy, but as puppys go there are places he isnt required to be right now.
now if I could only get him to stop throwing up in the vehicle,

new issue we are dealing with.
