Someone dropped off a starved almost dead cockeral *update

I agree with you rooster, I got to looking at pics of white rock roos and cornish roos and he's either or IMO, I'm honestly leaning more towards a Cornish boy considering the size of his feet and he's actually keeping his tail feathers nice and tall like a roo should and the pointed feathers are draping beautifully around it. Hopefully not a cornish X but a Cornish boy could be good to try to breed over one of my red girls to at least see what I get. Either way, he's been a lap chicken today and he can WALK NOW!

still barely making any noise but the noise I hear earlier was a bit on the deeper side so I'm about 110% he's a he now. Any way I'm happy he's recovering and from my observations he was probably just batter caged

and then starved, but he's sooooo sweet. Even Peckerhead and ham aren't even this sweet. I officially have a 'Lap Chicken' lol I dunno If he'll even have a coop, he might just take over the guest room in the house lol

i believe white rock roo was the first thing said, it looks a whole lot like my idea hatchery white rock pullets though, there comb folds over like that as well, my cornish combs stood up as long as the white rock roos

I'm wondering if it's also because of the condition the bird in?

I say definitely a Roo, looking at his pointy neck feathers. White rock or skinny cross maybe. I guess you are a hero, or have the rep of being a chicken person. I can't imagine why they didn't just cull him. They must have wanted you to nurse him back to health for some reason. I wouldn't risk that for a cull, lucky is a perfect name for the fellow. Kudos to you Redhead, you have a new best friend. If he turns into a hen, that's a huge bonus. He is def. young with those yellow legs, maybe his comb flopped from poor nutrition? Does that happen, like Killer Whales? Thier fin flops when they are held captive, and never recovers.

henz, that's why I was trying to figure out other options breed wise, I'm sure it was from batter caging/very poor nutrition, like I said he wasn't even able to walk and or cheep. I'm hoping to maybe possibly try to get him healthy enough to at least have his comb try to stand up but I'm sure it's probably the same as with the 'killer' whales, every pic I've ever seen of a batter caged ANYTHING (chicken wise) has had a comb that fell to the side like his, I know he's young and I got to feeling on the 'spots' on his legs and they've started to get a point to them as well, So I'm sure he's gonna have a hellova pair of spikes on him when he's older. I'm sure we'll know for sure in a few weeks if/when he starts crowin'. Boy or girl though, he's definatly gonna be a pet for the rest of his life. I hope he likes my girls lol I think they're beautiful and so do my red roos but we'll see what happens. If and hopefully just when he's healthy enough to breed to my girls I might just try and then I'll just throw the eggs in the incubator to see what happens.

Yes I'm more happy about the fact that he can walk and I finally heard a bit of a voice out of him today. He tried getting to me from his laundry basket and I just picked him up and put him on my lap and he fell asleep. I think that's what finally did it for both me and hubby lol. EVEN if he is a cornish X at this point, I think he's still bound to be a close pet for years to come. Everything looks very bright for him at this point as far as I can tell. I even checked him over multiple times for mites and lice and saw nothing except for spots that he looks like he's been pecked and there's new feather growth coming in there. Maybe in a few weeks he'll have a nice new set of pretty tail feathers in. Thank you EVERYBODY for your support and I'll keep updates as much as I possibly can so yall can see how he's doing. If it wasn't for BYC and THE WEALTH OF INFO FOUND HERE, I probably would have never known what to do when I found him on the porch. I owe my sanity to yall and Lucky owes his life. He's my lap chicken now and asleep on my lap as I'm typing this. I don't know what else to say or do for anybody here except express my gratitude and when he's well enough and old enough if anyone wants to test/try some of his eggs to hatch I'll be more than happy to send them out. At least I know he's got some strong genes lol

OK I think it's probably time for my drunk butt to pass out, hubby's been in bed for about an hour now and maybe I can sneak Lucky in bed with us

it's not like we don't already have a zoo around here that alternates sleeping in bed with us anyway. 2 dogs, 2 cats a tarantula and a butt load of chickens (though the chickens have their over built coops lol) But it's not like it'll be noisy with lucky in bed or at least roosting on the headboard lol. I just don't wanna 'lock' him up with the laundry baskets again tonight, though I'm sure hubby won't want a chicken in bed lol. Am I the only crazy person that actually wants a chicken to sleep with them?

Oh Redhead, you've been bitten for sure. Are you sure that birds not part Silkie? He's stolen your heart. If you turn out the lights quickly on him, he'll fall asleep before he knows you are gone!
