Someone dropped off a starved almost dead cockeral *update

Thanks for taking him in and caring for him. I always take in all sorts of animals that need help. I act first think later. Last year we raised a squirrel from newborn to 6 mos. It was the most awesome experience we've had aside from some chewed on base boards and wires. LOL

I of course, never go looking for critters that need help, they always seem to find their way to our house.

Good luck with this fellow. He obviously is a fighter! Keep us posted.

if it was an x rock i wouldnt waste my time tryin to nurse it cause i dont know if i ever could eat it, not because i nursed it but because god knows where it came from. but if its a white rock it may be a good bird to keep around

can you take pics of the body, or a whole chicken pic? maybe a left or right side profile shot. another picto take but may be kinda gross is a pic of the vent, (to sex the chicken of corse and to be more sure)

I'll try to get some more pics of him when he wakes up so you can see what I'm talking about, I just don't wanna disturb him right now. He seems happy with watching tv and falling asleep.

Hi redhead.....I can feel it in my bones that he is going to make it and be one heck of a great pet. You're doing everything right and pretty soon he'll be the beautiful roo he was meant to be. God Bless you both! Poor little guy. Some people I could just *&%*&(#%&*!!!

Make sure you post pictures for us often.

I'm wondering if you got a look at the vehicle that left him? Maybe you will see it again.

I barely got a look at it, but best I can tell it was an older, beat up, ford or Chevrolet more than likely an American made truck , it was red and missing the clear coat and I think it had VA tags.

Well, look at it this way---they could have just dumped it in the ditch or wrung its neck, but they chose to leave it on your doorstep so you could save it. It might be someone who knows you have chickens (and a tender heart) and that you would take care of it.

I'm just glad for the roo's sake that he ended up with you and not someone who didn't care about him.

Best of luck to you in bringing him back from the (almost) dead. He looks like a beautiful bird, and he will be your best bud!

CASEY

Well he's still with us this morning, he's still very weak and is asleep again. But he's started pooping more than he did yesterday, I think in like 5 hours or so he only pooped twice and both times they were full of feathers, but he did poo 2 more times last night while we were asleep. I think I might give him a bit of a bath and trim his butt feathers (poo stuck on em) in a little bit and I'll take pics then for yall. I really hope that he doesn't turn out to be a meatie, because he's already getting attached to me and hubby and I gave him a name now too. I know it's a bit of a cliche but his name is lucky.
