SOMEONE HELP!!!!

Don’t want to hog the posts. But this experience could prompt you to learn. Many of the things I know I learned the hard way. I’m not such a big fan of that policy anymore. There will be problems that pop up from time to time it’s just part of chicken keeping. I learn something new everyday, honestly I do. You’re on a great site take advantage of it. We’re here to support you and your chickens. The first thing I tell myself is don’t panic easier said than done. I can tell you only want the best and I can feel your connection that you have already with your chickens. We’ve all been there. Best wishes.

How is her prolapsed vent after getting the egg out with the incision? We have had a couple of hens lately who had become eggbound and had a prolapse at the same time. Those people were able to maneuver getting the eggs out eventually. Can you post any pictures of her vent area? I would keep her vent as clean as possible, cleaning with some weak betadine or Hibiclens and water, or spray Vetericyn on it. You may even want to soak her in a shallow bath with Epsom salts or soapy water daily until the prolapse goes back in. Keep the prolapse moist at all times with an ointment or cream, such as Preparation H, plain Neosporin, or coconut oil. Push it inside and hold it there for a few minutes until it stays.

thank you so much! i sprayed ALOT with the vetricyn and i put lots of lube on there for her. im gonna get her out of the kennel shes in in the morning and give her another good soak and another spraydown with the vetricyn.

i do love them SO much, id hate to lose my girl. but i have a good feeling in knowing that if she DOES pass, that i did what i could for her and made her more comfortable for the time being, at least she can poop and not have that egg hanging out of her until she dies.

this is margaret this morning. she's doing ok! she's had a booty bath and a spray down with vetricin. i've decided to hold off on the antibiotics for now. she's had a few pieces of food and oyster shell, and she had a little water melon. but she hasn't drank that i've seen. she is passing small poops, maybe the size of a dime at most. pretty liquid-y. how can i help her pass the poop? i tried gently feeling around in there to get some out but she seemed VERY uncomfortable so i stopped. any advice to care for this prolapse aftermath is greatly appreciated.

Well I would quit inserting my finger. She may be passing smaller poo because of the trama. Try not to stress her that will effect her recovery. If there’s no prolapse hanging out. Leave it be. I would Offer scrambled egg. Crumble mixed with yogurt. Her poos may simply be runny from the watermelon. Monitor her but let her rest and recover.
