something an older person says about chickens

I just pulled my walker over to read this post, but where did I put my spectacles, oh, there they are. Now if I can get my depends to act right I might read some more.

I suppose I'm considered an old person.....55 in a couple of weeks......but I'd rather be getting old than the alternative!!!

Both sets of grandparents always had chickens and so did my folks, so I guess I never considered not having them. I did HATE butchering day tho. I once swore I'd never pluck another chicken as long as I lived and I haven't!!! That's why chickens either die of old age here, or go to the poultry auction.

I agree grandma always got 100 straight run each spring so come aug/sept that is when the fun began, mine go to see the amish lady and come home in a bag.

My family used to attach the dead chicken to the dog whom killed it and made:lol: the dog wear it for a couple days. He said the other dogs learned not to kill the chickens from this method as well. Just learning by association I suppose.

Whatever works, right?

Hey! I did this! I am *horrible* I know....my oldest dane killed god...I don't know maybe 7-8 birds (and we are in a residential neighborhood) & I LOST it and got out some zip-ties and tied that bird to her collarfor about 36 hours or so. It worked for I guess about 2 mnths. Then yesterday the 'pack' killed 2 chicks that are about 1.5 mnths old

But, I do have to say it's the ONLY thing that has calmed her down. Previously she was ALWAYS trying to jump over the gate & like SCREAMING to get at the chickens. So, it may be 'inhumane' to people today, but it's the only thing that has worked in this household.
