Something in my attic making noises....It's a Nest of Squirrels!

What does it matter if they ain't in the chicken coop? That our worry here.

Just knowing something that like is near (closer than I'd like) Raccoons are very clever and savvy with their little 'hands'. I don't want them camping in my yard or attic and so close to the coop. Arrggg

Well I went looking around outside and I don't see any way that a creature of that size could get into the attic, except for the roof fan. I suppose that's possible. I didn't hear anything during the night. I have one of those pull down stairs in the ceiling upstairs, right by my bedroom door. I couldn't get the nerve to pull that down, all I could imagine would be something landing on my head scrambling to get out

and I have to climb up those steps in order to pull the string for the light. Remember that scene in The Exorcist?

I'll check later this afternoon.

I kinda thought that. Better than having coon poop in my attic and them making nests out of my kids stuffed animals. Isn't this the time of the year for raccoons looking for places for the winter?? Are they active like that in the daytime??

if its in a dark attic it doesnt matter what time of day it is.to a racoon that would be just like moving around in their den.and from the way you described it,thats what it is.
use caution!they can be defensive when it comes to their den, especialy if they have a litter up there.

I kept hearing what sounded like galloping in my roof. Squirrels. They can get in very small holes. I'm thinking raccoons can also squish down into small spaces you wouldn't think they could get into.

buy 10 boxes of moth balls and open the hatch and throw them in there.

90% of the pests will leave and never come back. the smell will go away by new years, but you will sleep well.

We had squirrels in our attic and I went and bought some coyote urine and DH sprayed it in there and that got rid of them. You can get it at your feed store.

We've had mice in our attic... ugh try sleeping at night with the pitter patter scratch scratch... I almost went nuts! Traps and peanut butter have helped us so far.
We had 2 mice in one of our coops last winter. I found them and screamed for hubby! So funny him chasing those mice in that coop with a shovel he did get them finally. He wanted to use his air pellet pistol but I was affraid he'd get a hen or 2.

Pulled in our driveway the other night and headlights flashed on a possum going around the side of the house and a HUGE coon setting on the roof looking for a way in. We think he pulled the soffit loose under the gutter and pulled himself in that way last year, so now he is back to set up housekeeping again.

Coon poop is/can be dangerous to humans. It carries/can carry a really serious bacteria that can cause serious health issues, so getting rid of them is the best thing you can do.

Not only that, they will tear up anything and everything they can get their black evil little paws into. If the paws can't do it, their teeth will. I had a family of a mama and 3 babies for 2 years running and its no fun. Their pee stinks and I can still smell a trace of it when its hot and I open the attic door. I dread fall because they are getting hit left and right because of cold weather coming; they want to eat and eat and eat and it makes them goofy as owl dooky. I always thought it was because it was breeding season, but someone else said on here that its because of the cold coming and their "need" to pack on the weight.

Regardless, they are a big ole' pain in the butt if they get in your house. I sat outside one evening right at dusk and waited until I saw the little head pop out of a TINY spot the contractor "forgot" to seal up, and don't think that mama can't get thru too, because if their heads fit, the body will follow. Got that fixed and then the next one (and I wonder if it wasn't a baby from the year before, because when I opened the door and yelled at him he left in a hurry . . . no guts like the mama would have had with babies) tore the soffit loose. I think they are absolutely the cutest things you ever will see, but what a pain.

GET IT OUT, whatever it is. Squirrels will chew your wiring, they have NO brains or sense of DANGER!!! We just lost power all afternoon last week because a squirrel got into the main power main and blew out 600 families in our area.
