Pulled in our driveway the other night and headlights flashed on a possum going around the side of the house and a HUGE coon setting on the roof looking for a way in. We think he pulled the soffit loose under the gutter and pulled himself in that way last year, so now he is back to set up housekeeping again.
Coon poop is/can be dangerous to humans. It carries/can carry a really serious bacteria that can cause serious health issues, so getting rid of them is the best thing you can do.
Not only that, they will tear up anything and everything they can get their black evil little paws into. If the paws can't do it, their teeth will. I had a family of a mama and 3 babies for 2 years running and its no fun. Their pee stinks and I can still smell a trace of it when its hot and I open the attic door. I dread fall because they are getting hit left and right because of cold weather coming; they want to eat and eat and eat and it makes them goofy as owl dooky. I always thought it was because it was breeding season, but someone else said on here that its because of the cold coming and their "need" to pack on the weight.
Regardless, they are a big ole' pain in the butt if they get in your house. I sat outside one evening right at dusk and waited until I saw the little head pop out of a TINY spot the contractor "forgot" to seal up, and don't think that mama can't get thru too, because if their heads fit, the body will follow. Got that fixed and then the next one (and I wonder if it wasn't a baby from the year before, because when I opened the door and yelled at him he left in a hurry . . . no guts like the mama would have had with babies) tore the soffit loose. I think they are absolutely the cutest things you ever will see, but what a pain.
GET IT OUT, whatever it is. Squirrels will chew your wiring, they have NO brains or sense of DANGER!!! We just lost power all afternoon last week because a squirrel got into the main power main and blew out 600 families in our area.
