I'm so sorry for you. Seems amazing that in just a short time something like this can happen.

From what you've said, the hens having broken necks, I'd bet on the dog being the culprit.

Hopfuly its not some a** h*** kids they give people my age a bad name. Well I hope that you find more in the morning and hopfuly it was just your neighbord dog because that problem can be fixed (you cant take kids to the pound).

we had the same thing happen in terms of losing half our flock in one night...it looked like a butcher shop in the run...blood everywhere...just devastating when you raise the girls from little day old chicks and then think you are protecting them and this happens. Im sorry man, it sucks but Im starting to realize to a certain extent carnage may in fact be part of our hobby. We keep as pets what other animals see as filet mignon!

That is so true Aran and sometimes no matter how hard we try those predators manage to weasle in. I'm sorry RCL,,,,last March I made the terrible mistake of forgetting to lock the pen and coops and I also lost just about all my flock and had to start all over again. It is a terrible way to learn from a mistake.

I'm so sorry! I guess we all think it won't happen to us but your post was a wake up call to make sure I get out there to secure the coop on time!

I hope you figure out what happened and are able to take steps to protect the rest of your flock. Also hope you find the missing hens!
