Something tore my little duck to SHREDS!!

I had a raft on my pond, a mink took 2 of my muscovies right off it. I hope that a mink isn't what killed your duck because I'm having a hell of a time trapping this one.

Could have been, but wouldn't an airborne animal take the whole thing? This little duck was left in peices; just a leg, spine, a whole pile of feathers and it's guts were strewn all around the area.

I thought if the animal was hungry, it would eat the whole duck and especially the insides...?

I would guess it was a coon or some kind of weasel. We have had similar kills, and I am sad to say that it will prob come back. Ours did

Pen them up at night if you can, and/or set traps up and hope for the best...

Hi I'm glad you'd liked the idea and it's funny how we stumble on things because I'd loved the idea of the gardening on those islands! aparently there's no weeds???? LOL

And yes a mink could & would go after a duck that is on an island or even in the pond. A snapping turtle or a hawk has the ability to get to it too. I just always feel that if there's a farm homestead etc with a beautiful country pond it just seems a shame to have a duck locked up swimming in a kiddie pool. I do understand why people would lock them in though because one is taking a chance leaving them on a pond. They're just a little more protected from the rest of the "critters like the fox, weasel & racoons will not swim to get them. But mink will swim & will get them & mink are hard to get rid I think. Good luck and so let us know what you end up doing. I'd love to see if you put the island on.
