I was expecting something much grosser from your description. I don't think you need to worry about it or quarantine the birds. If it were me i'd cut it open and investigate but that's just me.

That is the weirdest thing. It's like a deformed acorn, but it's the wrong color. Could it be an egg? Ugh.
