Sometimes I just don't understand people....animal re-homing rant

My son is military, and when he was transferred from McDill to Peterson, they did not have an apt on the base and he and family had to live in motel for a time. since he had just bought a pitt ,I ended up with her, and I am so glad I did,she protects both me and DH. DH is almost deaf and we have lots of snakes out here so Mia watches out for both him and my self.she sleeps in her crate at night and the back of the P/U if every one else is inside, we go outside she is immediately there.I fell yesterday, and she was there almost by the time I hit the ground. love my babies.

and mia is almost 10 years old now a well established part of our family marrie

I tried to explain to my mom that 'humans' are animals too and she just won't accept it. Humans are ultimatly the most selfish beings on this planet. We trash the enviroment and think nothing of it, we build houses and don't think of the animals already living there. I also don't get why when an animal like a dog hurts a human the dog is put down but when a human does something terrible like starve an animal or beat it they get a fine and maybe a year in jail I think they should get much worse, alot of times these people are likely to abuse people too, like their own children.

when me and my friend were fleeing a hurricane we took 11 cat and 34 chicken and 2 turkey to okla with us . to leave then behind never came to us they were and still are our family

Sometimes there are circumstances where animals (even chickens) need to be re-homed. If you are in the military and you get your orders for deployment, sometimes they leave the dog off the deployment orders. Then the family has to figure out how to get the dog to where ever they are being deployed (most the time, this is an overseas deployment) at their own expense. Having a dog shipped overseas is an extremely expensive, long process. The dog (or cat) would then have to sit in quarantine for a bit (I believe in some countries it's a month or better). At least these people are trying to re-home the dog instead of dropping the dog at the shelter or pound. Also, I believe the dog was spayed, which to me indicates that they are responsible pet owners, they just got the call to leave to protect our rights.

What about the countless backyard breeders that dont breed for the betterment of the breed, but only for $$$? Then when a particular dog doesn't "work" in their breeding program (i.e. ends up costing more for medical reasons, doesn't produce enough puppies, got too old or the pups were born with health problems or dead), they abandon these animals, discard them, or re-home an unaltered pet. This is what should upset people.

People know what they are taught. I cringe at the thought of a puppy our family had one year. I was a little kid. Mom grew up on a farm where dogs were tied out. That little pup lives most of the year in a small patch near the back door. It never occured to my mom to show us how to play with it, groom it or walk it. Finally, my step-dad got tired of griping about how "ungrateful" we kids were to have that dog and he gave it away. Probably the best thing ever for that pup.

Being deployed and PCSing are NOT the same thing. The member has a deployement and the wife and kids have to handle the PCS alone. I guess she isn't up to that.

The saddest thing is that the world has become a diposable, "throw-away", society ---- and not just about inanimate objects.......whatever doesn't want to be dealt with anymore is dumped off, left to die, etc. Old people, unwanted children, animals .... it's really disgusting.

I thought we were "civilized" .... guess I thought wrong.
