That part of the video makes me laugh everytime. Also, at the beginning with the giant galoot of a giant rooster comes galloping up in the background. He is such a giant dork.
Also very small and very flighty. One of the girls (not sure which, probably should band them) has flown out of the 6 foot run twice now. First time landed out in the back brush area about 20 feet away. Same thing happened with a white leghorn and it took over an hour to finally convince her to fly back in. The buttercup took about 5 minutes to get back in. I moved a rock at the base of the fence exposing a hole and she found it almost right away.
That is why my leghorns are named Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum and this girl is Princess Buttercup.
Today she got a wing clip. We'll see if that helps. She and both white leghorns flew out today so they could hang with the Giant Rooster in the big yard. Crazy girls.
I WANT ONE! That is the coolest looking comb I have ever seen! So, the breed is a Buttercup? Is that correct? And what color is she considered? Such a pretty bird.
She is a Sicilian Buttercup. She is only hatchery quality (I guess) since she was from TSC. I wish I knew which hatchery supplied my TSC as I would order more. I am totally a biased chicken mom here, but I think my girls are much more beautiful than most of the other buttercups I see online.....so I want more from where they came from
I think there are other colors elsewhere, but I have only seen "sicilian buttercups" at hatcheries....no options on color varieties. They are almost identical to Golden Campines, only diference being the comb (as far as I know....most obvious difference at least).
I was not a fan of my girls to start since they were so flighty, but they have really grown on me. However fyi, they are VERY small. They can fit underneath my Jersey Giants.
Here they are with Leghorn pullets of the same age, and a Jersey Giant cockerel of the same age.
