Songs that make your skin crawl.

Yes, Every Breath You Take is about obsession. It is no secret. It is not a love song. You can hate it, that is fair. But songs can be about anything.

Like Sweet Home Alabama. You can make a song that criticizes another song writer for writing about a major incident in American history, the killing of peaceful college student protesters by a federalized domestic military force, but I will think that your song sucks mightly for all time.
Books, TV, Movies, Plays, even operas deal with every kind of subject matter imaginable. For some reason there is a block when it comes to popular music for some people. They want all romantic songs or party songs.

To each there own, right? All I care about in music is if it moves me in some way, or makes me feel or think something new. Any genre, any subject matter is fine so long as it is handled with care.

Thanks Moonshiner. Fixed in original. Hate it so much couldn't even recall the name.
How do you feel about a song that mentions a song that...
criticizes another song writer for writing about a major incident in American history,
Like Kid Rocks All Summer Long

*meanwhile doesn't like romance nor parties*

Luckily, as I have grown older I have been able to preemptively take actions to avoid potentially annoying things like Kid Rock... although I think it is important to know something about popular culture (it is culture) I think that knowing that Kid Rock exists is charitable enough on my part.

Oh, how about the "talking guitar?" When I try to prove a point that art is not completely subjective -- that there is such a thing a bad art, I often use the talking guitar as an example, as well as the performance art of the guy who shot someone else. I see them both as excellent answers and have yet to have someone look me in the eyes and honestly disagree with me.

Music reflects culture. As, in fact, does all art. Think about Mother Goose's Nursery Rhymes. Or even for that matter, Grimm's Fairy Tales. Talk about cringe-worthy! How about the Disney movies we grew up on? Bambi, Where the Red Fern Grows, Old Yeller? Was anybody else traumatized by these? Then high school required reading. The Pearl, The Red Pony, Of Mice and Men, All Quiet on the Western Front, Lord of the Flies. I could go on.

Modern art (I speak of what's dubbed as modern art, NOT all art made today) is often literally trash. There are multiple stories of janitors throwing away modern art pieces in a museum 'cause they thought they were just trash. I think they had the right idea, some of the pieces are literally what would be considered trash in any other circumstance

I'm not understanding what you mean by reflects culture?
