Why do they have to be so darn cute ? They are becoming a real problem here:he. We had to kill one Saturday night, in my run. Since then I have set out the trap and have caught one every night !!!!!!! I let my dogs bark at them and scare the daylights out of them:eek: while they are in the trap, (like they do bears), then I take them away and let them go . I only kill the ones that get in, and I hate having to do that:hit, but I gotta do what it takes to protect my babies . Does anyone have any ideas on how to deter them ? Something that doesn't cost much, funds are as scarce as coons are plentiful . Thanks !

Electric fence!!! Your biggest expense would be the charger, but would be well worth it. Plastic fence posts or plastic fence insulators are fairly cheap, and depending on how big your run is electric wire or polytape shouldn't run you much either. Its definitely the best defense against any predator.
I used to think fox were cute, but after having to live amongst them an defend my chickens from them I do not hesitate to put that cute little face in the crosshairs.

I'd mark those that I let go with a little spray paint. If they are caught again then they have to go for good.
Good idea, I wouldn't think that they would come back, after the scare they got. And i did take them a little ways away,But, you never know, coons are sneaky little boogers. I will do the spray paint though:thumbsup

I hope you checked the laws in your state before dropping off wildlife in another area. In many states that is against the law. That means in many states if you catch them you have to plan on shooting them. It's considered cruel to drop off an animal in an area that they are not familiar with. Also, it is a way of spreading disease from one area to another.

It is legal to relocate, as long as it's not on private land. I don't take them far, only about a mile. Just far enough, and they are let loose in the same woods, just further away .
