we've had a baby BOOM this past month,

as I speak, we've got two mommas with babies, one momma with eggs due to hatch in a day or two, and one momma who just raised off a baby, and one momma who's gonna have a rather interesting hatch if she sits tight enough for the next 2 1/2 weeks(2 muscovy ducklings, 1 runner mix duckling, 1 either pekin, or blue swed mix, 8 chicks and a Guinea keet(I just hope it isn't mixed with chicken O_O)

ofcourse, the ducklings will be taken away, I started this escapade 2 weeks ago, by giving her 2 muscovy eggs, then a week later, a couple runner, pekin, and blueswed eggs, then this past sunday gave her 8 chicken eggs and a guinea egg)

we've had a total of 6 hens go broody this year, with combined times of 11 times.

Juliet,silkie,black: broody three times
"momma hen",mutt,red and white,:broody twice
Stella,cochin,blue,:broody once
Naomi,OEG mix,color???,:broody three times
Natalie,OEGB mix, color???:broody once
Lily,cochin,white,:broody twice

i could also get into ducks, but i won't go there lol

It has been constant broodies here since April. Finally I am down to only 1 in the standard pen, she is sitting on 3 Swedish duck eggs. 7 standards have been broody for the last 2 months, including a Wheaten Ameraucana and a Red Sex Link, the rest were all Cochins!!

I had some shipped eggs, constant eggs from my blue Ameraucana trio (now sold) and eggs from another BYC'er. The 8 bantam broodies refuse to stop being broody, even if they have no eggs, so I just kept putting eggs in the nesting boxes. They (including a black jap, mille fleur d'Uccle, white cochin and 5 silkies) have hatched out 13 ducklings, 20+ blue Ameraucanas and 10-15 mixed chicks...oh and 1 pheasant and 1 turkey. I took all the chicks away from them though, they all swapped boxes so much I had no clue who was supposed to play mommy. They have got to give up soon...I am out of fertile eggs and the ones they are sitting on should hatch this weekend.

I might buy some eggs at the auction tonight, two of the bantam broodies just started being broody and haven't had a chance to hatch anything. Not that I need more chicks....I have 17 standard juvies in the grow out pen, 25 a couple weeks younger in another grow out pen and probably 25+ (I haven't counted lately) chicks in the coop brooder. TSC chick days didn't help at all either lol. Some came from an Ideal order as well.

Its been nonstop chick and ducklings since the second week of April!! I love them, but I will admit, I am ready for everyone to be grown up and in their final homes.

that made my head hurt reading it LOL

we've got 4 11/12 week old golden comet pullets, an 8 week old RIR,buff orp, cuckoo maran, and some barred rocks that REALLY need to get out of the brooder, not to mention the 10, and 8 week old ducks, and the NEW babies

I've got a muscovy, blue swed. and pekin sitting right now LOL

I'll actually be glad when baby season is over, i mlove em, but it's time to rehome some cockerals LOL

How did you manage to get a broody blue Swed? I have 3 Swed. and none will sit on the nests! My Muscovy went broody though and hatched 4 ducklings.

she just...sorta plopped LOL

Sage is alittle....off anyways, she didn't get very big, and is very short and round. she first started showing an interest in sitting when one of my mallards,Mouse hatched her baby, Sage would gaurd the baby while mouse was out, then when abby started following momma around, Sage promptly started laying eggs in the nest box beside where Mouse hatched her duckling, I gave her two runner eggs, and Maude, my old pekin started laying hers in the same nest box, I take the newer eggs out though, there are 6 at the same stage of development, so i left them, she's been dutifully setting for about 2 weeks now
