sooooo frustrated!!!!!! pics...

Did you dust your hen with DE or sevin dust. I highly recommend the sevin dust. Since your looking at a possible mite/lice infestation in your flock, go ahead and use the ivomec injectable first, rather than the wazine first. Dosage for the ivomec is is 4cc/ml per gallon of water for 2 days. It must be their sole source of drinking during the 2 days. Repeat same dosage and times in 14 days for your mite/lice problem.

hello dawg,no i dusted with de.i dont like to dust with sevin i use the sevin under their bedding in the coop.thats why im gonna use the ivermectin, but i am wanting to do my first worming for this hen and my whole flock so i thought id kill 2 birds with one stone, worm and de-bug.but you think i should just go ahead and worry about the bugs first then worm?

You know the bugs are there, get rid of them. Your sleepy hen is proof they are sucking the life out of her and you need to use the big guns and kill the bugs....this is beyond DE usage. If they were my chickens, I'd use sevin dust on them NOW, then dose them with the ivermectin as soon as it arrived at my house, then dose them again in 14 days.

Just be careful not to get the dust in her eyes or nostrils, the key here is killing the bugs that's killing her. Sorry, I've never dealt w/ coccidia and only know about it from what I've read here in BYC forums. Here's some info on lice/mites and sevin is recommended. http://ohioline.osu.edu/vme-fact/0018.html

I wish I knew, the last time I bought Corrid, there was a number on the package. I called it to get the dosage, because the stuff I got was a powder for bovine. I actually got to speak to a real vet. Maybe your package has that phone number and you can call and ask....

I'll bet she gets better! she's probably a little bit anemic. (Those darn little blood sucking parasites.....) Now, the bad thing is, you should probably dust the whole flock and clean out the coop real good, and dust or spray that too.....Alot of work......ARG! Don't forget to dust her again in 10 days, because then the little eggs will hatch and you'll kill them before they can reproduce.......

Take care!

Mine are on corrid now and I called the vet they said 1tsp per half gallon of water.

Hopefully the others are not as badly infested. Also each chicken is different too, some may be weakened such that they cant handle the stresses as say, the next chicken...kinda like humans lol. In any case, once you get her dusted and she gets over the stress from the dusting...her health should improve. Additionally, the ivomec will help with her as well as with the others. edited..ugh, long day, doing too many typos grrrr. Forgot; worms dont actually eat their food....but they do steal the nutrients when digested in the chickens system. I doubt you'll see worms unless there's an infestation. The ivomec will take care of them if they have worms.

i sure hope so i feel so bad keeping her in the house.its been around 2 weeks now.

I re-edited my last post. I have a crippled Black Star hen who I have to keep in a cage in the garage, otherwise the others relentlessly pick/peck on her. But I have a small fenced area for her to hobble around and eat grass. She loves the extra attention and is spoiled. She lays an egg for me in her cage just about every day too, she's a real sweetheart.
