96 here today, with high humidity. I have the girls out in the portable pen, under the trees, where there is a thick leaf and dirt base so they can dig and cool off. It is too hot for me to stay out with them, so no free ranging until evening.

I put out some water with ice cubes that had a blackberry frozen in each one. They love that! They have all dug themselves nice little holes in the dirt and leaves and are happily "dirt bathing". Lol.

Lol people call me crazy but my chickens love me... Because I keep them in the AC during the hottest parts of the day until I get home... That's when I let them run around the yard... I do it so I can monitor them closely since I'm not comfortable leaving them out in the heat. It's also in the 90s here. I need to get a fan and recommission my coop but until then... They get ac and they love it. It's got to the point where she will smack into my front door and front door window trying to fly inside lol:barnie but I also think she gets very lonely when i dont spend time with her

Today it is a cool 90 degrees here. Next week is predicted to be 105-106! I have a nice shady area and 1/2 of it is dirt. I water the grass part for about 5 minutes before I let them free range. They go straight to that wet spot looking for worms and enjoying the cool water on their toes! Some run right to the dirt for a bath too! When they are good I give them melon or watermelon that's really cold. Ooooohhh, they love that!

My road island will not eat ANYTHING unless it's mushy feed or corn meal. She had a severely broken beak

I had a rooster with a cross beak. He wasn't supposed to survive, but he did and he thrived! Your girl can too! By the way, it's a Rhode Island Red. Good luck with your sweetie!

What a great idea with the blackberry in an ice cube. I must try that! Thanks!
