Yesterday whilst taking dinner to the chickens my favourite little red shaver 'Peck' ran between my legs and i accidently kicked her :( i feel terrible and she is limping, i have given her liquid baby nurofen (like asprin) but am unsure if I have the dosage right. His much should i give her? And can her eggs still be eaten?

Is it safe to give such medicine to chickens? I Googled and found this thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/575913/can-you-give-chickens-childrens-liquid-ibuprofen

Anyone more experienced want to chime in?

Hope your chook recovers.

Hello and welcome to BYC!

I'm sorry that has happened to you and your girl, but If you didn't break her leg and there's no sign of serious injury, I wouldn't give anything. For some reason chickens are able to tolerate pain differently than us. I would just keep an eye on her for a couple days and she should go right back to walking fine! :)

Welcome to BYC!

You can give a chicken baby asprin. 1/2 tablet in a raisin in the morning, the other half in a raisin 8 hours later. But she will probably be ok. I would keep her quite somewhere for a couple days, maybe in a small cage so she doesn't move around a lot to help the leg heal. Don't feel too badly. She will still love you and I am sure she will heal completely.

Keep us posted on her health!
