Sore eye welsummer rooster

My rooster was almost lunch for a cat. My dog chased it away. It bit the comb and apparently scratched his eye. I put antibiotic on the comb but don't know what to do for eye. He holds it closed and shakes his head. What can I do for the eye?

Will he let you hold him? If you can, hold him securely against you and let him calm dow. Then gentley open the lid and inspect the eye for injury or damage. If the eye is intact I wouldn't worry too much about it. He will be all right in a day or two. If the eye is damaged, I would seperate him and start him on a broad spec antibiotic.
