I have three chickens that are pets. They only started laying eggs on Halloween... they are only 8 months old. Today we noticed these dark spots on their combs. All three have them. I thought maybe they were pecking each other but looking closer they look like scabbed over blisters maybe? I'm thinking dry fowlpox (just from google) but wanted to get the advice of experts. All three chickens have it whatever it is. Will it kill them? Can I treat it? Will it go away on its own? Luna has a spot on her eyelid. Will it hurt her eyes? Is there something I can pick up at Tractor Supply to help this situation?

It sounds like fowl pox, but pictures may help identify it. Fowl pox comes from mosquitoes. It's hard to prevent. Treatment is basically sooth the sores and watch out for wet pox, just in case. I'll post some links in a bit with more advice...

Can you post some pictures of the combs and faces? Peck wounds are usually jet black, while fowl pox scabs can very from cream colored, to tan, brown, or almost black. What is your location? Have you seen mosquitoes recently? They are how the pox virus is spread. For fowl pox near eyes, it is okay to apply a dab of Terramycin eye ointment or plain Neosporin to the eye twice daily. Here are some good pictures and info on fowl pox:

I finally got pictures!

1 is Maddie... she doesn't seem to have as many of the marks...
2 is Sofie and she only has a couple.
3 is Luna... she has the most.

They almost look like warts. All of them are eating and drinking fine... two are laying eggs... (we only know this because we are getting one brown egg and one blue/green egg each day). They all seem happy. But we are very new to this so I wanted to make sure that they didn't have something that's going to kill them.

It doesn't look like pecking marks to me. Do they seem to be progressing like pox since those pictures?
