So my 5.5 week olds have been hand fed....meaning weve played with them and let them eat out of our open flat hand. They go NUTS for some whole wheat bread crumbs (yes they have grit available) but its starting to hurt as they competitively peck the crumbs from our hands. Is this normal? I thought we would always be able to hand feed them but they go so crazy, ouch. So are those days over?

In my experience all chickens start to peck harder as they get bigger. I still hand feed my adult hens sometimes, but it does hurt now and then. They don't mean anything by it....they just don't know their own strength. I enjoy interacting with them too much to stop hand feeding. I just put up with it. Sometimes I wear garden gloves. Maybe that will help?

Gloves would help. They don't mean to hurt you though [IMG]
