SOS have a hurt baby goat!!!

The diapers will not only prevent the mess in the house, they will prevent urine scald on the kid. They make things a LOT more comfortable for everyone.

Sorry super busy between two children and one kid lol! We are headed back to the vet today for the second steroid shot for Cocoa. She is slowly making progress. Good news she has full range of motion of her rear legs now (with me working them) from her belly to completely extended. I'm doing this and her massage at the VERY LEAST every time she eats plus the massage. Though she hates the later. She looks at me like excuse me?! What the crap do you think you are doing?! Lol she has involuntary movement of her back legs now it's like she CAN move them but it's by accident when she does. I'm not a vet but I'm thinking that's a good sign and that her muscles know hey I'm here I'm workable but her Brain just hasn't gotten used to being able to do it. There is no longer swelling in any of her joints and she is standing for longer periods of time . I'm making her stand for her bottles now and correcting her balance as needed. Tough love people haha. She is now eating 9 oz per feeding instead of 8. As she was eating WAY too much when I got her and milk replacer to boot. She is now on 100% whole milk and nutri-drench (twice a day). Have learned her "potty signs" so we mostly hit the puppy pad now! And with me to steady her no wet legs!

And bad news... She still has balance issues as she isn't using her back legs too much. I've seen her make a small step or two with the back left but the right she usually holds straight. Therefore she isn't walking without help. Left to her own devices she will kind of scoot across the floor. She doesn't have trouble getting somewhere though. I'm also having trouble doing the therapy where I put the scarf in front of her hind legs to hold her up because apparently I'm her "maaaaaa" and she doesn't want to walk away from me.....sigh. My husband is working really long hours right now so no help there and the kids are too small. Any suggestions? I can work those legs all day plus do massage but I'm kind of out of ideas on teaching her to walk and balance herself with them? I'm not frustrated I swear I just want her to be as healthy as possible. I'm becoming the crazy goat lady!!!! Eeeeekkk! She goes on errands with me and everything seeing as she has to be feed every three hours. I even borrowed a small dog sweater from my sister for her when I take her out because it's so freaking cold here right now and all I need is her getting something else to deal with !!! Go on laugh if you must but we really do love her she's part of the family now and we really are trying to learn as we go so I'm terrified of making a mistake.

I haven't read all the post in great detail but when I hear hind end weakness is it possible it could be M-worm or CAE? Not sure if the kid is too young for that to be an issue. Also, have you considered an X-ray to determine if something is wrong that way, either with spine and/or back legs?

Holy Crap!!!! Cocoa took FOUR count em One Two Three Four unassisted steps just now!!! They were shaky wobbly and she look as if she had drank a fifth of vodka but I'm so excited! Took her back to the vet for her second round of steroids today so three hours later we have some improvement! We are to keep up the therapy we have been doing and go back for a third round of steroids in a weeks time.

Is it work? Yes! Do I want to do leg stretches and massages like 50 freaking times a day? Not so much! But when her little butt took her first four steps at 12 days old I was beyond happy and sooooo work it! It's like freaking Christmas !! Lol

Oops sorry I was so excited I didn't see this!! At first we just thought she was stepped on after vet trips that turns out to be the case. Due to injuries from that and being confined and not able to stand the next five days we are at this point trying to play catch up and build up rear body strength. No broken bones but we were worried about nerve damage still can't rule that completely out but she is making progress slowly but surely. When I got her she could move her back half at all then she could stand but not bend her legs then she could bend them somewhat lol now she has full range with them but we are trying to teach her to move them on her own besides accidentally. So her four steps today are a huge deal! It's crazy how excited I am! :)

Wow, I didn't realize how emotionally invested I have become with your little cutie pie!

I'm so happy for you guys. Yea!!!!!!!!. I did a big yes when I read that post about all her improvements. My daughter looked at me weird. She's 18 so I guess that's normal. I so totally agree about becoming attached to these people and animals on this site that we have never even met. Kinda feels like family. :)

Yes it does for sure !!! My kids are little enough that when I jumped up and started singing and dancing they thought it was a game! Even the dog got in on the action!

I know that we have a loooonnngggg way to go still but I will take these little milestones for sure! Poor little Cocoa is so exhausted after her four little steps she just plopped down and has to be coaxed to move! Lol

I am going to keep posting her progress in case someone else is like what the crap I'm I supposed to do with this helpless little thing!

I'm thinking of writing a blog (like I have the time geez)! I think it may start something like this.....

Hello you can call me the crazy goat lady....my husband already does. It all started eleven long days ago....

What do you guys think?!?!

I think its a great idea. Please post the link if you do start a blog so we can keep updated on yours and cocoas adventures. Your a very descriptive writer so I think you would do good with a blog. Me, I just lay it out in a minimal way that would help no one. Lol

Please pay no attention to this god awful carpet!!! Ugh it's being replaced ASAP but here's Cocoa tonight after her bottle and ready for bed....
