Thanks guys! Jorey and chooks you guys rock! I've let my five year old take over feedings when she is home from school to give me a bit of a break and to let Cocoa know hey look your "mom" isn't the only one that cares about you. She does tend to treat my two girls as siblings and completely ignores my hubby. If he took to calling me mutton as a joke i would ignore him too! I'm going to have the vet do a more extensive X-ray and check up on her hip joints when we go back just to rule out certain issues.

Good idea to let the kids feed her. It's a great experience for them and should help avoid excessive attachment to just one person. Lol about your husband calling her mutton! She's not a sheep.

Sorry Chooks we had a little bit of tornado damage so I've been dealing with that and not online much.

I'm takingCocoa back to the vet on Monday not happy with this rear right leg right now and we aren't making as much progress as the left....not even close! She seems healthy and happy though so we will have to see what the vet says. I might just be freaking out over nothing. Better safe than sorry I think though. I want to get her in before the holidays. I will let you guys know what he says.....

Just an idea but have you given her any calcium or maybe some Alfalfa (not much) as it is high in calcium. One of our young goats walks with very stiff front legs. The vet did an xray and found that the two bones that goats have in their legs weren't "melding" together. I guess as a goat gets older, the two bones develop into one. Little layla's bones weren't growing together normally. The vet tried both casting and splinting her legs but she managed to get them off. I've been adding a bit of alfalfa to her diet to hopefully encourage the calcium to help join the bones. I also massage her legs and have made her long stockings that I sewed onto a sweater to keep her legs warm and help with any arthritis. I'm going to try wrapping her legs loosely with an ace bandage to give her some support. We do everything we can for our goaties. They are our babies so I completely understand your commitment.

Hey gigiok! I've tried giving her some Alfalfa but she just looks at it then looks at me like what's this crap bring my bottle now! Sigh. It would help if number 1) I knew squat about goats and number 2) if she thought she was a goat! Lol

The vet said not to wrap her legs as we are trying to get her to bend them. They were locked in an extended position. We have gotten the left one moving well but that right one is being a pain. Headed back to get another round of steroids and hopefully an ultrasound to check out muscles and tendons . We are going to keep at it until we get her moving around better though for sure!

I think she could probably do with a sling walker or something like that. The less the body is allowed to adopt unnatural positions, the more it is strengthened in natural ones. If not kept to a natural formation her body will give way in unnatural ways, and a single injury can escalate into multiples due to the abnormal position and movements. One of the biggest problems with fixing leg damage is preventing the animal's over-compensation from damaging the normal legs. Eventually the animal can be so 'bent out of shape' that even if the injured leg heals normally, it's no use, because the rest of the legs have ceased to function normally.

The kid will eat alfalfa when she is ready. As for a calcium deficiency, she doesn't t have one because, if for no other reason, she gets milk. Milk has plenty of calcium. Keep trying to bend the leg. And as someone suggested, a sling might help.

She looks very content. She also looks to be growing good. She ll eat hay when she's ready and not before. I just made sure mine had it available to her at all times in her dog cage so she could nibble when she wanted. Animals are a learning process. Lots of books written about what they should be doing and when they should be doing it but thing is animals can't read ; ) have a happy thanksgiving everyone.
